If the price for the 5.0 drops below $200 EVERYONE should get one. The $199 iPod Touch pales in comparison.

I have the 5.0 it came free with my tv.
It's a great little player, good sq from the wolfson dac and rootable, though there are no custom roms for it as of yet, and id be surprised if there will be tbh.
Does it use wolfson codec? I heard its different correct me if I'm wrong though.
Mmm, might've overshot the price...my point was that if the price drops, I'd be liable to get one, At full price, it's a bit much.
I believe it does, it's the S2 that uses the yamaha.
It's on the quiet side, so first thing i did was grab volume control it's now much better as it gives a 30% hike in this respect.
Sq wise it's pretty decent, ok my cowon is better but it's not that far off.
i will most likely be switching from an ipod touch to this product. This looks like an ipod killer.
plus, it helps samsung's case that i cant stand apple or itunes. win.
any word on the quality of the built in amp, or the sound signature of the overall device? i am only really interested in using it as a music player... and maybe a calculator haha
the ipod is much warmer in sound signature than i like. it doesnt sound as linear as, say, the clip+ or a fiio e5.
So how are those players treating you guys who bought one?
Anyone know if they use the same hardware for music playback as the cellphones?
Might Samsung dish out 32GB and 64GB versions in the future? =D
It's really good. I came from a rockboxed ipod and I must say the sq is much better (using poweramp as player). I own the international version running froyo.
less of a need, really. it supports 32 GB microSD card. im sure they will include more capacity if they get more of a user base, but i hope it doesnt REPLACE the expandability.
what iPod? was it a touch? what generation?
But I would want to go 64GB + 32GB, lol.
I'm using an ipod classic. BTW in Korea there's a new galaxy player ver 70 -- which is actually the 5' model to be released in 32 and 64 gig.
Its allready been released in europe under the 8 and 16gb versions at 250 and 300 euros,
the problem is that it was running android 2.2.1 and was meh. the buzz came up again when they pushed the android 2.3.5 upgrade for it a couple of weeks back raising interest in the device again.
But the lack of a serious modding comunity and a stable CM7 port makes me think its not such a great thing. but the 2500mA battery and that it suppose to have decent quality gives me hopes.
So I lost my Clip+ today. There's a chance of getting it back, as it could only really be in a couple of places. Still, I am tremendously pissed, and let my anger get the better of me: I bought an 8 GB Galaxy 5 player at a local Best Buy as a replacement. Still charging right now, but looks like it has potential. Probably going to have to get a 32 GB microSD card in the near future.
I was comparing the 5.0 to my J3 (DSPs off) using HD25-1 at Best Buy and some music I put into the Galaxy player via bluetooth from my Epic 4G. The Samsung player was very pleasant sounding boasted a bit more bass extension and less coloration - I could hear more of the music's own colors and less of the player's. The J3, however, had the advantages of greater body, more depth and control to the sound, much more separation and better layering, making the Samsung sound thinner, flabbier, and more congested by comparison. I'd definitely take the Samsung over an ipod, I guess. Unfortunately, my own ipod is dead so I can't compare them, lol.
I know the Poweramp playback app sounds better than the stock Samsung one in my Epic 4G, so the Galaxy player's sound can still improve a slightly, but not enough to bring it on par with the J3 overall.
Now if you were to root the Samsung and install the voodoo app thing and I forgot what else, then you can even tweak the internal headamp's power output and stuff, then maybe the Samsung player might be able to kill mine or something (or so I was reading in one of the Samsung Galaxy threads).
And needless to say, the J3's screen isn't as nice as the Galaxy player's, which seems to be the same as my Epic 4G's.
Sounds like it is to me.
The Idea of Custom EQ finally put me over the edge and i decided to jump on this player...arriving tomorrow I'm pretty excited.
