Amazingly expensive when he might as well have just gone whole hog and bought the CLAS or HP-P1. With the latter, the expense is moved away from the $200 lump of plastic and silicon - lose your iPod and its no biggie, but lose an iMod and you'd be crying tears of you-know-what.

And he bases his 'findings' on this:

The best iPods are those that use the Audio chips from the Scottish company Wolfson. It turns out my nano has a wolfson – the iPhone 3Gs does not.

Right back to square one - please, chip Nazis, give us all a break - the 'best' iPod is the iPod that sounds good to your ears, period - buying a 5-year old piece of consumer electronics simply because someone claims the $5 sliver of silicon inside makes it 'the best' is, IMO, a poor decision-making process. Those who want 'the best' now have several ready-made solutions to choose from, each of which costs considerably more than a stock iPod, but I'm guessing that those who genuinely want a better mousetrap are prepared to pay for it.

So the iphone 3Gs doesn't even put out anything below 50hz according to that wtf???

No I don't need that much capacity, 160GB would be fine but I don't like ipods EQ and not enough money to buy a ipod+DAC+amp with EQ. I love the "CLEAR BASS" on my sony S-series and its 5 band EQ is good (would like a 7 or 9) but i don't like ipod/itunes EQ but I want an ipod for my car and because there are so many options like lineout DAC's and amps that I will get eventually but at work I will just be using the ipods headphone jack.
