Need help desiding on a MP3 player

Right now I have a Sony-S series cuz it was 16GB and I got it for $80 and they are said to have better SQ than Ipods but its program for getting media on it is kinda screwy any way I have also always wanted an Ipod nano and now that I have a Stereo in my car to connect an ipod to that also bypasses the Ipods DAC I really want one and companies are starting to make portable ipod DAC's I want to break down and buy one but if I am going to be running it through that high of quality of stuff I should have my music higher than the 192 to 256kbps I have it in now. 320 might fit but if I want to go to loss less there is no way its going fit on 16GB so then IDK if I should get the 64GB Touch or a Classic?

 

I considered the High-Fi man stuff but they don't have enough capacity either even with a 32B card. Maybe the 16BG 401 or 402 or what ever plus a 32GB card but then it wouldn't work with my car stereo.

 

I guess I'm wondering with 256-320kbps will I notice a difference with a better DAC or should I get a iPod Touch for $400 and go to loss less? But then im sacrificing the portability of the nano :( idk.

Also the Nano and HiFi-Man stuff doesn't play videos which I would like but I should say I hate the iPod/iTunes EQ, it makes every thing sound like crap and idk why (it looks like a nice 10 band eq), but if I was using an external DAC it wouldn't madder but whenever I wasn't using one it would.

Get the Touch. Much better device all-round. My 6G Nano died, and I wont be buying another - that's despite the fact that we have a display case absolutely full of iPods in the front of the store. Even with employee discount, I'm not tempted.

If you want large capacity players you are limited in what you can get. I am running around 6k losless files on my ipod and it takes up all my 160gig ipod. If you want larger than 100gigs you are limited to the ipod, zune 120, or cowon x7, archos 5 and 7.

Get the Cowon J3 or S9.  The S9 is the older (but still awesome) version of the J3.

You can find reviews of EQu in various places - seems to make most people happy. I'm just too cheap to spend $2.99 - how about you ?

This is the preferred app....."Equalizer". Better than EQu IMO.

I'm confident that either would be better than the stock presets, which tend to sound like a flatulent camel on ecstasy.

OK thanks I'm probably going to go with a 64GB touch. So which one? Should I try both?

Yeah I KNOW! I can even make it sound good with custom settings on my computer, I usually fiddle with EQ all the time weather its a 3 band in a car a 5 band graphic or a parametric but the iTunes one doesn't work for me what ever I do deviating from flat/off sound awful.

Both ? Just get the current 64GB Touch and be happy - in addition to very good sound, that is a great little PMP.  Expensive, but still a lot cheaper than an iPhone - I can make calls with a $50 throwaway phone ..........

If your concerned about space, you can put a 240gb hdd in a 5th gen video. Then put rockbox on it so you can ditch tunes and use a parametric equalizer. Also, the ipod video(among other older ipods) are supposed to have the best sound quality because of their dac. And, you can still play your videos.

If you imod it then yes it will have better sound than the classic, if not then no. But yes a 5.5 with a 340gb hd and imod is amazing.
