Fiio E7 amp

I have finally decided that after all the travel i do I finally wanted to get a portable amp. I have a set of Bose qc15 , Shure se535 and Bose on ear headphones. I was looking at the Fiio E7 because I like the ability to use it for my labtop. My source is an ipod touch with mostly  .aac files. Do you think this is a good choice or do you think there is something else i should look at?

You don't need an amp at all really.

I believe I do because I have a ASUS Xonar Xense on my pc and that brings my music to life through my headphones like you wouldn't believe and on my ipod that " life" is not there.

That "life" could be the result of a high output impedance coloring the frequency response and not damping the drivers. I don't know the Xense's output impedance, but their other top-tier Essence cards have a 10 ohm output impedance, which is not a good thing at least for your Shures.

I also trust you're not using any special features like Dolby Headphone on the card?

The iPod Touch may have a high output impedance as well, but not nearly that high. It has more than enough power, unless the Bose are harder to drive than I'd think. No way to know because they publish absolutely no meaningful information about their headphones.

If you're dead-set on an amp, the Fiio E7 is a good portable option. If the "life" is a result of output impedance you'll be out of luck though, because it has even less than your iPod might.

Yeah no Dolby Headphone, to hear my music on my ipod I have to have it turned up 95% or more on the volume any less and I can’t hear any of the individual instruments . I like to be able to hear the tiniest squeak of the drum pedal or the griping of the strings. You think an amp would be bad for my Shures?

If you're turning the volume that high, get an amp. Have you checked to make sure you're listening at a safe volume?

An amp wouldn't be bad for your Shures as long as it has a low output impedance.

Lol no I am not blowing out my eardrums, while on my pc my volume is quite low but on my ipod I just feel like I can’t hear the music like it is supposed to sound. I try to find music that is 0% compressed which harder to find then it should. I believe the Shures are around 35 or so I will have to recheck.
