Okay, I understand now.  Got a friend with a mac, then? bigsmile_face.gif

Digital volume attenuation is not nearly that evil if your player applies it in 64fp and then dithers to 24int(uLilith and foobar both do)

Thanks for the link and tip!!  Does JRMC have 64fp too?  I'm currently deciding between it and ULilith.  Edit: just checked and it does.

Incidentally, in addition to less strain on the electronics, I have found that when you leave the unit on for a day or two, SQ improves.  It seems to flow more easily and become more immediate (subtle yet still audible).  I've experienced exactly the same phenomenon with other CD players and DACs I've owned. Whether or not this is worth the extra energy consumption is another matter though normal_smile%20.gif.

FWIW, I came across this measurement test of the DP1.  It confirms the usefully low output impedance:

Here's a nice Lee Perry selection I just came across, but sound quality isn't great:

Gear mentioned in this thread:

yay, 0.1Ω on the headphones out happy_face1.gif

I dunno anyone w/ a Mac and its OS doesn't have any equivalent to Reclock, ffdshow and Avisynth so I'm not going through the trouble of putting a hackintosh together either tongue.gif

I never turn off any of my audio gear coz I can't be hassled to wait for the whole thing to warm up and it's been proven that the power on/off cycles will actually lower the MTBF of any electric equipment.

Yep, same ole same ole Black Ark stuff....he's had unreleased stuff out lately:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scratch-Perry-Presents-Candy-McKenzie/dp/B007CGFVIQ

http://www.amazon.com/Return-Sound-System-Scratch-More/dp/B004QK6T96

http://www.amazon.com/Sound-System-Scratch-Perry-Upsetters/dp/B003QZ634S/

But these days, I can't get "Lacksley Castell" out of my head, his two first albums just leave me speechless: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAOqDNqEPng

He's got the voice of an angel, but as usual with so many of those highly talented singers(Tenor Saw, Otis Redding, etc) he died very young....

And they've gone through several DUB album versions including one from Sly & Robbie that are pure dynamite smoking.gif

Another record that blows me away on the DP-1 is this bossa nova/Morricone piece of history: http://www.amazon.com/Per-Un-Pugno-Di-Samba/dp/B00008O6QJ

Does anyone know what the HPA is rated at (watts-wise) on this beast?

I've been enjoying mine for a week or so. My Pro900's were a little harsh at first but it seems to be mellowing out. The Eximus will just about rattle your eye-balls with those phones. My LCD3's have been great from the start. I have the Bryston amp coming so I'm just wondering how much more umph I'll be getting with that. I think that's rated at 6wpc into 32 ohms. I wouldn't even have a guess on the Eximus. So far I've just had a portable system.

Thanks, man.  I'm going to check out the Morricone.  Sly and Robbie Dub Rockers Delight Lacksley Castell Dubs is the one I think you mean smile.gif.   His first LP was made with Hugh Mundell

Another really great voice is Wayne Jarret here:

http://www.discogs.com/Wayne-Jarrett-Showcase-Vol-1/release/135573

And Johnny Clarke, of course.

Ras Michael and Sons Negus made some great LPs. Promised Land sounds (80), Dadawah - Peace & Love + Nyahbinghi (77) and Tribute to the Emperor (76), to name a few gems.

I don't think anybody does and they are not stated by April Music.  Why don't you run them a quick email?

HE-500's are usually pretty loud around 11 o'clock.  I'd hazard a guess that they output a good 2 watts at their 46 ohms- but that's a complete guess.

Hey leeperry, what's that "PoUSB" device? I can't find anything via Google. I'm assuming it's another ADuM4160-based isolator - if so, why that one instead of the Olimex?

BTW, TE8802L is fully compatible with ADuM4160, even does 88.2kHz and the spanking new DI-2 has a I2S output: http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/dac/DIv2/DIv2EN.htm

I'm such a USB transport freak, haha evil_smiley.gif

Wayne Jarrett? sounds good, I'll have a listen happy_face1.gif

Lacksley Castell did some tunes at the Black Ark and his first solo album("Morning Glory") also has some dubs available on this CD: http://www.dubvendor.co.uk/sip-a-cup-meets-negus-roots---fire-house-dub-vol-1---cd-gussie-p-133-p.asp

Up to now, my desert island CD used to be this remastered gem: http://www.hip-oselect.com/scr.public.productdetails.asp?product_id=35c31810-b344-7523-f9f4-045e5e12adfd

but "Morning Glory" would fit within the same jewel case anyway ^^

Morricone? my fav CD from him up to now(the man did +500 OST's so I still have some catch up to do floatsmile.png) is w/o the doubt this one(especially the bonus CD, OMG): http://www.amazon.com/Testa-35th-Anniversary-Special-Edition/dp/B000ION1PE

This is, perhaps, the most beautiful music composed in the 20th Century.

I recently located a HD copy of the movie, priceless!

Here: http://www.poscope.com/pousbiso

The Olimex has a SMPS voltage regulator on its external PSU input so feeding a clean PSU is pointless, OTOH the PoUSB provides a vanilla unregulated input(that will be used to feed both the device side of 4160 and the device itself) beerchug.gif

But are you likely to find a 'UAC1 backward compatible mode in order to work on Windows' any time soon?

Thanks for the heads up- it's in the shopping bag  smile_phones.gif

Hmm, never heard a remastered version- will check it out!

This was a classic LP.  Recommended if you haven't got it:

Well, I very much fancy the idea of putting the DP-1 I2S input to good use, it's there...gotta use it! Only if isolated, though.

ADuM4160 itself doesn't require drivers, and both TE7022L and TE8802L do work perfectly up to 24/96 in UAC1 12 Mbit/s USB mode. The only diff is that the latter also supports 88.2kHz and can go async/UAC2 when installing custom drivers.

Thanks for the link but I know my classics when it comes to 70's/80's roots/dub reggae, no worries wink_face.gif

I compare Stello U3 + my beloved Museatex Bitstream against April Eximus DP1

(in Russian) http://soundex.ru/index.php?showtopic=34795

and April Eximus DP1 wins!

Next step will be Stello U3 (or ART Legato) + reference Museatex Bidat against April Eximus DP1. I will keep you informed.

April Eximus DP1 is really nice combo. I've just upgrade my phones from Grado 225 to ATH W10VTG.

Has anybody compared this to the Nad M51 yet? I've pretty much narrowed it down to these two for my totl dac. Just looking for sonic impressions on the dac side of things-the DP1 amp section won't affect my purchase decision. Thanks.

-Daniel

Not heard the M51 but as far as the DP1 DAC is concerned, there isn't too much to say that hasn't already been said. It's a very detailed, neutral DAC with a hint of warmth.  Having owned it for a few months, I'm listening and buying more music than ever...

I would say the Nad is similar but without the hint of warmth. But not cool or analytical sounding. Very musical.

Has anyone tried this amp with the 3000anv im debating between the lcd2 and the anv

I finally got a response (they were at a show); the HPA is rating is
32 Ohm-->2.5Watts, 50 Ohm-->1.6Watts, 300 Ohm-->270mWatts and 600 Ohm-->135mWatts

Thanks for reporting back.  I guess that's in the same ballpark as an NFB 12.
