I just noticed when trying to insert an image (jpg), it seems to resize the picture.

For example, this jpg is 1000x562 on my computer, but when put here it gets downsized to something that looks to be a little more than 300px across:

If I resize it by dragging the handle, it is apparent that the image has lost resolution:

Did something change?  Is there now a limit to the size of images that we can upload?

Mac OSX 10.7.2
Firefox 7.0.1
Safari 5.1.1

Thanks!

Follow-up:

I just noticed that when I view the actual post, the image resolution (resized) looks nice and sharp.  Also if I view my post in Preview, it looks fine.  It seems that this only happens in the Editor box.  I didn't notice this before.  I guess it's not so much an issue if the post looks okay.

Thanks again,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Give either of those images a click.  You'll see that for general forum viewing, you'll see a smaller, lower bandwidth version.  However, if you click the image, you'll see the full-size image.

Thanks, Joe!  I do remember that you can resize (drag handles) the image in the Editor, and if you click on the picture in the forum it will open up to something close to the original size.  What I'm describing is when you initially insert the picture in the Editor, I thought I remember getting a 'default' image size slightly larger than ~300px across.  This isn't a big deal since I usually resize them anyway.  But then if I try to enlarge the image in the Editor by moving the handle, the image now gets pixelated (in Editor view only)- which initially made me think that the image was resized at the time of upload and some of the original pixels were dropped.  But it seems like it only affects the view in the Editor.  It's kind of hard to describe- sorry!  Maybe this will help:

  Editor window

Preview window

Note how in the Editor window, the bottom enlarged photo loses sharpness- it's actually heavily pixelated.  In the Preview window, the image appears sharp as I would expect, as it does in the Forum.

I have been having trouble inserting an image in the last few days.  The message was "A temporary error occurred. Please retry your request.".
