Decca Sound: Another Super Bargain Classical Mega Box Set

4782826.jpg Classic stereo Decca recordings in mini LP covers- 50 disks $114! The average running time of the disks is 70 minutes. Oodles of great performances in here, and it's quite different than the RCA Living Stereo box. Worth getting both.

Many of my favorites in here... Katchen and Kertesz; Sutherland, Horne and Pavarotti; Britten conducting his War Requiem; Bohm's Bruckner 4; Monteux, Ansermet, Boult, von Karajan, Dutoit, Blomstedt, Ashkenazy's arrangement of Mussorgsky's Pictures, Boskovsky's Viennese Waltzes, Solti's Ring excerpts... Wow!

Wow...what a bargain. Not only are the performances great but the sonics on some of these are to die for.

I guess I know what I will be buying soon....

I have to check this out. I was already considering the complete Living Stereo series anyway...

This one is more of a grab bag than the Living Stereo box. The LS was all 50s and 60s with a handful of great performers in core romantic repetoire. the Decca box is all eras with a lot of artists and a wide range of music, both core repetoire and not so core. There isn't as much overlap as you might expect. DGG has a box called 111, but I'm not as keen on that one. Too much stuff that most collectors already have.

Holy crap, that is an awesome list of stuff. I'm so tempted. That is some seriously good music.

I have the DG-111 anthology compilations, part one and two. I still have to finish the Harmonia Mundi Early Music series so I still have a few weeks to think about what to buy.

I already checked the Decca website. The track list is a bit chaotic.

DO WANT

The track list might be a bit chaotic but the I know a lot of these recordings have amazing sound and the few that don't just need a little bit of TLC with a parametric to sound amazing.

This is definitely going on my Christmas wish list.

Amazon price just dropped to $95.61.  So I dove in.  Probably won't last so others may wish to grab it now.

I pre-ordered the vinyl edition awhile ago, not necessarily intending to get the CD box too.  Maybe I'll keep the vinyl sealed and resell when it's oop. And if the price falls, well then, I'll open it and enjoy it.

The Living Stereo box doesn't do anything for me. I have a few of the albums but I've had most of them at one time or another and gave them away.  IMO, better to cherry pick the best Living Stereos on SACD or HQ vinyl.

It still bothers me how little classical cds are valued today, speaking strictly in terms of price, as I posted about once before.  But I'll take advantage of it.

here is a more reasonable track list, with performers and recording dates (as usual Arkiv Music can be trusted for good CS)

I am skipping this one. I have to much music I still want to check out...

Amazon just shipped my copy. I'm very excited to get my hands on this. I was looking at my collection last night and I really don't have much overlap with this set. It looks like they focused on great performances rather than putting together a group of works on a theme or just picking by sound quality. That's perfect for me. I'd rather have definitive performances.

Just placed my order.  I'm surprised how little of this I already own.

The mailman just delivered my box. The packaging is very nice. As good or better than the RCA Living Stereo box. I'm going to dive in to some wonderful music today!
