I would appreciate your insight on the Super 7.  I am still very much inclined to get one, particularly to use with my HD800.  A number of negatives have, however, surfaced recently.  (i) Apparently its initial perception of improving the tonal balance of the HD800 was due in part to a source with some imbalance.  (ii) There have been few reviews of the amp from RMAF, and those have been polite but little more.  On the other hand, as you point out, the tubes on the Super 7 were inferior; and Craig did not have it paired with an HD800.  Also, you have apparently been able to achieve much better results with tube rolling, even though you were using a decent source.  If you have any other pros and cons, observations, or whatever, I am all ears.

http://www.head-fi.org/t/426508/sennheiser-hd800-appreciation-thread/2280#post_7695768 - It's a little out-of-date now that Craig has finalized his transformers for it.

We'll be getting in the Eddie Super 7, 2A3, and Balancing Act at a meet this weekend. I believe Audeze will show up with their LCD3 too. We plan on asking Craig if we can borrow the S7 and 2A3 for a week so we can provide a comprehensive review of all three using the same source and set of headphones. Last time we compared the S7 and BA in "home" conditions, the BA was definitely better (LOL - it better be), but the difference wasn't as far what seems to be implied with some of the quick observations from RMAF. In other words, it's not like the S7 would be "unacceptable" in comparison.

No Electra?

Nope frown.gif. I guess that's another trip later in the year.

Purrin,

I have previously pored over your earlier post and found it quite helpful.  I look forward to your impressions from your forthcoming meet, as well as any observations if you get the amps for the trial.

He said it wasn't ready.  I was surprised too, seeing as he had said he'd have it there.

I have a question for the folks who went to the show.  Were any portable amp makers

talking about (or being asked about) adding an ipod digital input ala Fostex?

If the iPure can do ipod digital capture for < $100, it can't cost that much to add it to

a sweet little amp like the pico-dac or predator, right?

Seems to me that's the next killer product.

sridhar3,

The rsa sr-71b has both balanced and single end output.  Does the alo rx mkiii have both also?

Cypher Labs Algorhythm Solo has LOD to USB.  The JH-3A has S/PDIF input, but nothing iDevice-specific.

Awesome, being i-device specific is one of main reasons I wont buy CLAS or HP-P1.  Time to find JH-3A thread.

I don't think the HP-P1 is iDevice-specific.  If I'm not mistaken, it has an S/PDIF input on the back too.

Edit: My mistake.  It's an S/PDIF *output*, not an input.  The JH-3A definitely has S/PDIF input, though.  Jerry was using a laptop with a Halide Bridge into the 3A at the show.
