I see you own the Alpha Dogs. I know closed vs. open is a hard comparison. Do both get time on your noggin?

Yeah, actually they get quite a bit of time, mainly because they are closed so are better for late night listening as to not disturb the wife. They are actually fantastic headphones too, especially for the price, and I find myself reaching for them over the LCD-3's sometimes if I want a more neutral presentation, though nothing beats the LCD-3 IMO for just relaxing and enjoying music.

Alpha Dogs and LCD-3F are my main two cans. I like the ADs a lot, but my use is pretty much the same as goldendarko's: mostly for isolation. I have gotten used to the comfort of the Audezes and don't mind them at all, but when I put my ADs I am reminded of how much more comfortable a large headphone can be. There really is no excuse for Audeze not adopting the suspension style strap system, it works so well.  The ADs have gotten a lot of well deserved praise, but they don't operate on the same plane as the LCD-3F (imho, fwiw, and all the other disclaimers.)

+1. Admittedly, sometimes I will also switch to the ADs for the comfort factor for longer listening sessions. Most I can handle with the Audezes is about 2 albums worth.

Very nice! My next step up for open headphones may be the LCD-3 or Hifiman HE-560. I'm going to do a side by side listening session before I make any decisions. The main reason I bought the AD's is because they don't leak sound and they're a much better deal than the LCD-XC IMO having heard the latter as well a few times and the two side by side.

EDIT: Also I have upgraded the Alpha Dog's cables to the Norne Audio Vanquish OCC litz cable and I have noticed immediate differences between the new cable and the stock cable. The new cable really opens up the soundstage making the presentation of the music much more "open" sounding and the highs more detailed. A pleasant surprise cause I was mostly upgrading the cables since the stock ones are too heavy and wasn't expecting these differences.

Nice, thanks for the cable recommendation, I think that will be one my next upgrade steps is to replace the stock cable for the AD's as I find it tangles a bit much for my liking, I've got Q Audio cables for my LCD-3's which I'm also a fan of.

As far as the HE-560 vs. LCD-3, I've read mixed reviews on the HE-560 so far, may want to give that some more time to see how it fares in the wilds (of Head-Fi smily_headphones1.gif

. I think Srajan at 6moons said it was a good ortho for the HD800/K812 crowd, so I would be curious to hear it in a side by side as well.

Same experience here with the Vanquish cable. I really like the sound of the AD with it.

Although my demo pair of X's from last year are the same as my 261 serial LCD-3's - so they have definately revised it; although if yours is a 271 serial with fazor then i would expect it to be thicker anyway..

Could you post a pic?

Is your 261 # the first 3 numbers or the last 3, because i contacted Audeze today about my lcd2 that i bought 2 weeks ago from music direct and they said by the serial number i do not have fazors in mine, on the graph they were tested on 8-13-13

first three numbers on mine are 532

Starting to get confusing, when i rub my finger on the inside of the ear pad it feels like it has the bumps in it which they say that is the fazors, but today they responded i did not have fazors by my serial number. confusing...

Fazors were introduced into the LCD3 partway through December '13. The Fazor has very prominent ridges, not to be confused with the normal cut-outs or holes in the non-fazor LCD grills

I also LOVE my Double Helix Cables cables w/ my Audeze LCD-2 w/ Fazor & LCD-3 w/ Fazor (also the X and XC)

I use the following DHC cables:

Dual XLR Complement3 (for my Cavalli Audio Liquid Gold) - shot here w/ my LCD-3 w/ Fazor

Molecule Elite 4-pin XLR (also for Liquid Gold) - shot here w/ my LCD-X (but like it with the LCD-3 w/ Fazor too)

Molecule Elite SE (for Studio Six)

and - of course the Wywires Red cable - in both 4-pin XLR and 1/4"

Alex Cavalli ending up buying a bunch of Wywires cables at Newport

also really enjoying the Nordost Heimdall headphone cable for my LAu, Studio Six, E.A.R HP4, or my McIntosh D100!

It works really well across all my reference amps - like the DHC stuff

Lovin' the Nordost w/ LCD-3 and the NuForce HAP-100!!!!

My problem is - I listened to  my unfazored lcd 3s against the fazored versions + the x's. Then I listened to the Stax 009s which made all the Audeze's just seem dark and lacking in hf detail so obvious. What a pisser.

No problem. Just ship me the Stax and you're done 😀

Just curious how long did you get to listen to the Stax? I have heard them for very brief periods of a few minutes and found them amazing. I have wondered if it would get tiring though after several hours.

How do like the fazor compared to non fazor?
Slightly more hf detail but if not side by side you would be hard pressed to notice the difference.
