Once I get my Taboo sorted and other amps (includes Lyr and Violectric V100) moved to my new address I could say more but would be two weeks at least...

Edit: Just looked at your profile - you have Telefunkens!! They've gotta be worth trying with an LCD3...

The Telefunkens do bring a nice bit of resolution to the lyr and changes it tonal character. I wondered if that would be enough to improve the pairing.

I'm still looking for SE amp suggestions though.

very insightful read indeed! you're very consistent with your arguments while acknowledging some of the flaws that might possibly crop up in your methodology.

i think the take home point for me is this: given how our sensory devices can suffer from distortion and hence affect perception and results, lcd-3 arguably betters its older brother, though not conclusively. admittedly, i feel that the truism that you concede inspires me the most and shall be made my guiding principle in my headphone journey.

I like the pairing with the EC Zana Deux. I am getting the Crack with the Speedball upgrade but I've been told that it is more suited to the HD 800.

^^ yes, the crack won't work with planar mags.

Thanks. You should know

No the Crack won't work, but the SEX will. They even mention the Audeze phones in their website when talking about the SEX amp.

Remember the new LCD-3F has a lot higher impedance at 110ohm, than other Audeze HPs. The Crack has an output impedance of 120ohms. If it is a flat impedance, just might be a perfect match. Or not. Best to ask Doc B about this.

The impedance of the amp should be 1/8 or less of the can's impedance. So, still not good :)

DOH! I was thinking impedance matching for highest power transfer.

Always best to talk to Doc B about how his products might interact. smily_headphones1.gif

My bad. The Crack website lists it's use with headphones at least 200ohms. So not advised for ALL Audeze.

What is Crack so sought after?  Output impedance is terrible.  Anyway, I personally would go with a nice SS amp with lots of juice.

Tubes with no output transformers just have a special something. Listen to a humble HD650 or HD600 driven with a Crack and you will understand.

Then put a $99 Quickie in front of the Crack on the same setup and prepare to be floored at the performance for the money.
