New Audeze LCD3 - Page 559

I have the Mjol and Gung stack in house right now and honestly for the $1500 new, less used... I really like it.  They are different than the GS-X mk2 and PWD2 to be sure but it's not the obvious drastic change the price tag might call for.  Now if I do bite the bullet and go the ciem route it's academic but for now colour me impressed.

Which is also to say the reasons I disliked the Mjolnir before... completely the fault of the W4S DAC2 :P  On both the PWD2 and Gung it's not super aggressive or top tilted.  It is a little more forward than the GS-X mk2 but in that they ride either side of the dead/alive line where dead centre would be perfectly natural if that makes sense.

Comparing the upcoming ragnarok to the gsx mk2 should be interesting

So is it better than the Soloist? smily_headphones1.gif
post #8374 of 9882

Different.  Soloist falls on the same side of that fence as the GS-X mk2 with a little less bass extension and weight.  I haven't done any official a/b review list, taking notes and all just listening to one then the other level matched.  The problem with it for me is going to be no pre off switch and no low gain for iems.

Thanks for the write up. If I read this right, does the GS-X make the LCD -3 "slightly darker" than the Mojo ?

Yes.  Imagine a speaker rig, the GS-X mk2 seat is a little further back than the Mjolnir, just that little bit more forgiving.

Ah Regis,

qu'avez vous fait? I need the GS-X more than ever now.

Decided to do some cable experimentation today after a long time. For the first time I have heard a significant, testable difference between the  stock cable vs. other upgraded silver and copper cables. I tried the same experiment with same cable material on HE-500 and LCD-2 and couldn't make out that much of a difference. It was too close to call and would definitely reflect on a psychometric curve. The extra transparency (and maybe even extension) really helps out with the ambience.

I am currently listening to Al Marconi on my LCD3 via Mjolnir/Gungnir and really just in a state of contented bliss. I have not heard the musical selection yet that does not sound exquisite. I am sure there is better equipment out there but this little system is so capable and satisfying that I feel I need not bother worrying about minute subjective nuance. Rather I would just be absorbed in beautifully rendered composition that carries me away. Is that not what we desire after all?   ;0)

No experience with the Gungnir but I fully endorse the capability and especially the synergy of the Mjolnir with the LCD3s.

So based on your latest revelation, in which areas is the GSXmk2 better than the Mjolnir and vice versa?

The GS-X mk2 is still the more natural of the two with a neutral tonal balance, deep bass and just enough distance to be high resolution and not forward sounding.  The Mjolnir on the other hand is tilted up some tonally, huge attack and illumination.  Not the same bass depth and quite a bit more forward giving it more apparent detail and air.  Too much for me but with the right source people who prefer a more active presentation would love it.
