You may not like their sound signature...but many of us do and the last thing I want is a headphone voiced like the HE-6s. No thank you. The current sound signature is what made Audeze so popular. As I said, Audeze obviously feels that they are still their flagships as they LCD-Xs and LCD-XCs were priced accordingly.
like people said, they might just be a studio series with the current series and their sound signature being different. now they could potentially have similar performance to LCD-3 technically wise, no wood, only a few hundred dollars cheaper, and 2 years now, im sure advances in planar technology have arrived and what cost alot before is cheaper now. so that could also be a reason for the pricing.
now, i too would hate if they competed with the HE-6. since right now hifiman has their own sound, and audeze has their own, trying to change might be a bad thing. kinda like grado with their "flagship" ps1000
i'd be expecting a neutral audeze, but still maintaining most of the character of the current ones, slightly dark, fuller bodied, etc.. in a perfect world, they'd be like LCD-3, but with the bass quantity of the LCD-2, and a little less creamy but still dark and smooth.
