Well - in your opinion.  IMO all these DACS in this price range are all side grades at best.  Each one doing things only slightly better than the other.  In blind test.  I'm betting my dime to anyones donuts no difference can be told.

I sold the Master 7 and selling the PWD2 as well.  Time to step it up and see what the 5K DACS can do.

theres that dCs debussy for sale right now :D

Not just my opinion, but my buddy's too (and he's the owner of the PWD2). wink.gif

Only 2?

My self and Soulde can cover that no problem.  Lots like it - lots don't.  Just like with everything else.  We all no that.

Ah, my version of the Three Wise Men 😄. Seriously, I have followed the advice if Regis in getting the Soloist and MH for the Senn Momentum (for my portable). In both cases I've been one very happy camper.
Your discussion on the DACs has got me interested. I have the Gungnir and wondering whether the Perfectwave mk2 is a good upgrade. I am also going to order the GS-X if you guys think it is a better pairing with the PS. And yes Regis, the Mjolnir is aggressive with the LCD 3.

I would love nothing better than to see review after review saying the Bryston is better or even as good as the PWD2.  Can always use more desktop real estate and the PWD2 is huge ;)

I have to admit the BDA-2 was very good, but I still preferred the M51 over it, and would be surprised it would be superior to the PWD2 with latest firmware...

Haven't tried all three dacs with the LCD3 though, only HE6/HD800/T1/LCD2/HE500 and Stax 404's and 007's MKII

Regis, now that you have the PWD2, any thoughts on that versus its predecessor PWD1 ? I have read elsewhere that the latter with Firmware 1 (whatever that is, I've got a Mac) is "better". On the topic of DACs, I am listening to the LCD 3 with my portable stack of Solo -dB and SR 71B amp. The stack just puts out great music. But I digress.

Never heard a PWD1 or PWD2 with the 2.02 firmware.  Mine is a new PWD2 so I have to use the 2.20 firmware.  That said better is a personal opinion.  Different would be a better word.  The original PWD1 and first PWD2 firmware are fuzzier than the new firmware.  Kind of B22(fuzz) v Soloist(focus) kind of difference.  Going to be fans of both.  Professional reviewers all preferred the 2.20 firmware for what it's worth.

OK...how's the detail retrieval by the PWD2 ? I currently have the Gungnir and I'm not sure if the low end is brought out in all detail.

Thanks

Awesome.  But not in the look at me style.  It's purely natural, massive dynamics, pure bliss.

Tried it and preferred the BDA-2 (this Saturday at my buddy's place down the street). He's now thinking of selling is PWD2 (with the latest and greatest firmware) for a BDA-2. Throw in the "firmware of the week" constant issues, he's ready for a change I think. Just seemed more transparent. But I want to stress that both are outstanding DACs IMO.

I've heard many conflicting reports of the M51 from ears I trust...so I passed and went for the sure bet (only because I had some good first hand experience with the BDA-2); even though it cost me more $.

You may be right about the BDA-2 being a bit more transparent, but I feel it's a bit too lean in the low end. I went for the most natural sounding dac on my current rig in the end; it's very difficult to make clear conclusions.

Ah so maybe a case of HD800 v LCD-3 tonal balance.
