To each their own.  I didn't like the pairing.  Though great value, the resulting sound was just too aggressive for me.  I did however like the Soloist and to a lesser extent the B22 was also a reasonable pairing.

+1. I am listening to them right now. MJ is a tad on the aggressive side though. Both Solude and MacedonianHero have given me enough incentive to try the GS-X but man, the wait on that is too much for me.

Just gotten my LCD3 from the local dealer a few days ago and definitely enjoyed the upgrade difference from LCD2 to LCD3

The Zebra wood housing for the early August batch does however look much darker compared to the pictures here

I could see how the HD800 may not sound optimal on the same components however but not having listened to them I wouldn't know. I do know that every time I start to think about trying a different amp or dac with the LCD3 I realize what I have sounds so good I can just let it be and I am fine for now.

Really enjoyed the Schiit stack as well. We'll see if this GS-X Mk2 is all it's cracked up to be.

You liked the B22/LCD-3 better than the MJ/LCD-3?  eek.gif

Best to get on the current run "NOW"  At this point the wait won't be so bad.

Hi guys, newbie here.

Thinking of buying the lcd3's here in the UK and was wondering - are there still reliability issues with drivers?  No way am I going to drop this kind of dosh on headphones if they are likely to need returning, no matter how good they sound, and they do!

Yup.  B22/LCD-3 is rounded and laid back, not great but the Mjolnir pairing was just too aggressive.  Tolerable vs intolerable.

Congratulations! Can we see some pictures of the darker Zebrawood?

ouch - sounds like a dental procedure.

i loved my t1s, but find the lcd3's extra meat on the bone makes it my choice above the t1 as a (near) single can solution. that said, try n take away my 800s and i'll bomp ya in the nose. in my dreams i find the money under my pillow to get a t1 back in, and then i have it all.

In the end, the HD800 is just not as engaging and a bit clinical and too clean, like I am looking at the music in a container instead of being enveloped in a venue with the LCD3, with a sense of acoustic space

where the air has some substance, if that makes sense.

But I still like the HD800s when I want a refreshing open sound, and it is great at this, like a poor-man's 009.

In summary, the 009 is the king of stats for me, the LCD3 is the king of dynamics/mag-planars (and never the twain shall meet).

edit: spelling error only

Yes, makes perfect sense. This is also something I crave a lot. However I find that the LCD-2/3 don't deliver quite as much as say the Denon's/Fostex. Although my LSD-3 is much better than LCD-2 at this. Watching live recordings on the Denon's really brings out the atmosphere and sense of ambience that isn't quite there with the LCD-3's.

my experience is that how much the LCD3 deliver is also very source/amp dependent. it definitely scale better than the foster and have a higher "ceiling" re what it can deliver IMO. On say o2/odac or sth similar I would agree th900 may sound a tad bigger/more airy at the expense of some grain in the mids.

I found this true even on a BDA-2/BHA-1 rig. Maybe a different flavour will bring it out better.
