Bang for your buck the Mjolinir is a great choice for the LCD-3s (HD-800s...not so much). But the GS-X MKII is simply better! It can drive pretty much everything out there (including IEMs).

The prospect of IEMs, LCD-3, HD800 is quite tempting. Looks like this will most likely be my next amp after I pick up the NAD M51. Unless I pick up a Schiit stack in haste. There's also the new Schiit statement amps...but looks like the GS-X would be leaning more towards an end game product. Although 4 months of build time! Typically, how fast are people getting this amp once they have deposited.

By compression I mean a sense or feeling of constraint.  Like the dynamics range is reeled in artificially.  It's kind of like distant without the loss of detail or focus.

Another way of explaining it might be that it took the GS-X mk2's massive dynamic swing and bottom foundation to take the HD800 from what was on my first two attempts a distant lifeless mess to a can that had as much bottom as the LCD line and nearly the same propulsive impact, on mortal amps, while retaining its superb soundstage and mid range clarity.  Problem came when I brought back the LCD-3 and it did the same for it ;)  In the end the HD800 is primarily suited to mid centric music types, jazz, vocal, classical etc but becoming flat or top tilted on music led by its bass line and cymbals ie alternative, punk and metal.  Since I primarily came about the latter... LCD-3.  Though I do wonder if the HE-6 could be a middle ground but more than likely hold out for an HE-6 replacement that can be run off you know a headphone amp :P

I know Weidman through a friend. Your boy Anderson will be dethroned on Saturday. He will finally meet his match. There no answer for Weidman. You ordering the fight?

I agree with Peter.  At this point in time and not yet hearing the LAu, I would say the GS-X mkII is one of the best all around SS amps out.  At the price of the LAu, the GS-X mkII is a no brainer - that's just IMO.  The Ragnarok looks really interesting and at that price point could be a steal of a deal.

The GS-X mkII works very, very well with: HD800, LCD-3 and the HE-500.  Not so much with the HE-6 when compared to a quality speaker amp.

There should be a run on a new batch of GS-X mkIIs right now, so you might be right on time.  Contact Justin for info..

I'm comparing the GS-X mkII with the EF-6 right now. biggrin.gif

Please give some impressions on GS-X vs EF6 ;)

I had EF6 for like 3 months for LCD 3. I actually find it pair with LCD 3 quite well. Not as meaty and warm as I expected it would be.

The interesting comparison will be GSX MkII with Ragnarok when it finally arrives...

Hmm since you guys are praising the GS-X so much I'm thinking of buying one in the future to replace the Conductor.

What DAC would you recommend for it?
