Wise words from grokit beerchug.gif

It's easy to forget most of us have no problems. It's just we hear instantly about those of us who (unfortunately) do. Gives a worrying impression out of proportion to the size of problem.

In order to avoid it, you have to fill out a special form and submit it to customs officer before you send the headphones for repair, so they will grant you special permit(well, read it as trash half/whole day, depending on your country customs office best practices). And when repaired headphones actually come back, you will have to prove the repair was free under warranty, otherwise they will tax you on repair costs.

Audeze sends them back with zero value, so they will most certainly pass untouched by customs (well atleast in EU, dunno about third world countries..). Fedex shipped them back to me with zero questions (I even asked them about it - they said zero value so nothing to do).

Of course you should fill out the export form to be safe (and it's officially required anyway). Here you log in the web with your national id and fill it in 10 minutes, hurray for technology. biggrin.gif

And it was "only" 40€ to ship from here (economy would have been even cheaper).. use your national post office and not some expensive courier! Double-pack for safety, with extra address/phone-number infos stamped inside and outside so it can be tracked if ripped etc.

Well, this is not exactly how it is supposed to be under legislation. And it was matter of luck that nobody at customs wondered why expensive wooden box with headphones made of wood is zero value :)

This is what they expect you to do:

Before being exported for repair, the defective item must be presented to the local customs office and registered for the outward processing procedure. The relevant document is Form No. 0749 (available from form dealers). This is part of the standard EU "Single Administrative Document", which also includes the "entry outwards", or export notification. In return for this form, the customs office issues the person/party dispatching the item with a "Veredelungsschein" or temporary processing form. If this form is then presented to the customs office when the article is re-imported following repair, duty and taxes are calculated only on the basis of the repair costs and not on the total value of the item. If evidence is provided that the repair was carried out free of charge under warranty, no import duties/taxes are levied at all.

It's a bit hard to call it luck, I've sent atleast 2 lcd's and even maddogs for repairs. Atleast here Fedex handle the customs processing directly themselves. Even the USPS package sailed straight though. Afterall, US companies are so scared of declaring false values, why should not they be believed.. wink.gif Customs here are so busy they have zero interest opening such packages.

How you do think few dozens or even hundred people have time to open up truckloads of packages every hour? Finland is nice since even when you have to pay it, it's a simple web job. Probably of those a tiny percentage are verified if you entered correct info (few minutes after payment, it's automatically released, you see it in the tracking).. you never see customs people face to face unless you want to.

I am psyched  - Audeze is returning my LCD3s to me and they will arrive tomorrow. 16 hours from now I should be back in the saddle.

They replaced the drivers and generated a new fr graph. I am hoping for great things as I look forward to beginning the break-in period. Their customer service response to my frustration was fantastic: near immediate turnaround and return shipment after my popping to overnight them to Audeze. Their shipping person was out sick yesterday and they have overnighted them back to me today. That is simply amazing service and took the sting off the experience of having them fail. Very honourable, and smart in the face of these problems - way to build customer confidence and loyalty! They were also a pleasure to deal with on the telephone.

Looking to buy a pair of these online and have them shipped to canada. Audeze is saying it will be a month or two before they have them back in stock and i'd rather not wait.

Where is a good place to order these from online?

got my new driver LCD3s from fedex a couple of hours ago. right outta the box these are extremely different than the drivers I was listening to in the pair i bought used, which had a dec 2012 date on the chart. hugely more transparent , wider soundtage/better imaging, tighter and faster, bass and mids like steamers (come with clear liquid and butter!). The old drivers only hinted at most of what I'm describing. Thanking the Gods and Godesses that a channel went as I would never have heard how good they can be - and I would have sold them. these will have to be pried from my hands when i'm gone. now i know why so many have called them desert isle headphones. these are the best headphones i've ever heard, and by a LONG way too. hot damn! worth every penny.

Thanks for your reply. In fact I checked out with Audeze Support and they confirmed what you said, namely my LCD3 (of May 2013) definitely does not have the veiled sound...

I am currently using headroom's BUDA Balanced Amp with Hifiman HM-801 source.

Indeed, after about 3-4 days of gentle burn in ie say 30+hours, the sound relaxed and the LCD3 sounded much less "terse" but not much improvement in clarity per se. I am certainly more pleased with the way the sound signature is proceeding. Audeze suggested a good 100 hours - 200 hours...so hopefully it will get better. Owning both HE-6 and HD800, I can definitely say the LCD3 is not as detailed/clear, but that is the house sound...though more natural and bassy.

Thanks, N.

As a recent owner of the HD800, I concur (unless there is something wrong with my pair). The level of detail that the HD800 is quite ahead of the LCD3. I was beginning to wonder if these are actually defective (I'm May 2013). The HD800s sound a lot more lifelike for classical pieces/ OSTs. Hell, even the bass is better on the HD800s in terms of clarity - the LCD3s almost sound wooly in comparison. Could you clarify when you purchased yours?

I'm fairly certain the "veil" issue is a 2011/early 2012 issue. What I hear is more treble detail, but surprise, surprise, there's much more treble energy on the HD800s (and with classical music). Listen to the details from 1kHz down, the LCD-3s are about the same (if not slightly better) than the HD800s. The other thing I find is that they LCD-3s come to life at more volume; while the HD800s sound great at low levels.

Also, I don't think the BUDA outputs 2W of power (a must for orthos...and a lot of current for this purely resistive load).

I know the midrange is still there, but what's been bugging me is the bass and a little of the lower mids. Perhaps its the tubes in my amp (I'm running stock LD MKVI+). I'd like to try these phones on a different amp, but the only other person I know in town who even has an amp is an acquaintance who has the same amp and can't tell the difference between an LCD2 and LCD3 XD.

That might be it too. The LD MKVI+ is a good solution for the HD800s, but I'm not too sure about the LCD-2/3.
