update to my rma unit:

audeze has returned my unit with new transducers and thankfully the sound i'm

hearing thru it is outstanding. much more presence and what seems to be a

more transparent presentation compared to when i had them a week ago. it's

very apparent on chi il bel sogno di doretta by montserrat caballe where the

soprano unleases here delicate prowess in the higher octaves. it sounded

subdued and too polite before, but now it has presence and dynamics in her

delivery, going from ppp to f. before, it was pp to mf.  eddie vedder sounds

like a gentle thunder after a big storm full of micro detail yet no grain of any

sorts. keith jarrett's steinway sounds alive and has so much weight to his key

strokes now compared to before the rma and to other cans like the lcd2.2

and he6. i listened via a modified wa6 with 12sl7 tubes and a vintage

pioneer sa-9100.

and again, thanks to their generous 3 yr. warranty policy, i wasn't charged

any service fees nor shipping. of course, audeze didn't share the specifics

for the reasons in changing out the transducers. i think they changed the

earpads as well because it sure looks different than what was sent to them.

They do burn in and the result is a toned down sound...it relaxes a bit and kind of "settles" in to place. The LCD-3s are one of my favorites - and my favorites is a very short list.

Thanks.  Not all of the headphones I own are my favorite. :)

I prefer TH-900, LCD-3, and amazingly enough the VMODA M100.

I haven't updated the list in a while.  It has changed a little bit.

You will enjoy the LCD-3 immensely.  They are a very good headphone. :)

i've had the rma'd lcd3 for about 5 days now and one of the biggest

surprise is the fact that low level listening is possible with these now.

prior to the rma, low level listening was not one of its strong points.

i've sold off all of my lcd2 versions, so this is from memory, but i'm

fairly certain they did not sound anything as good as these at low

volumes.

I don't know what they did to improve the LCD-3 recently but the pair that I have received a week ago are a LOT better than the one that I bought a year ago.
