It won't be painless...but it will be sweet.  I'm really tempted to see what the "improvement" is actually all about.

Bass extension, treble extension, clarity etc., über-soft earpads, discovering you must upgrade the rest of your equipment and all that, nothing else really...  biggrin.gif

I love my LCD2's and I'm still contemplating a pair of 3's. If you own the 2's or 3's the Schiit Lyr is a great amp for the Audeze's. Gearphile.com is giving away a Schiit Lyr headphone amp. Enter the contest for free, they may just pick your name.

I already have a HD-800. Is it silly to get LCD-3 as well? I had bought both the lcd 2 and hd 800 last september. Could not keep both so I sent back the lcd 2. I thought the pair of lcd 2s I had was too close to the HD-650. It seemed like they lacked soundstage and got conjested in some music. Right now I have a Burson HA-160 and DA-160. If I get the lcd 3 i plan on upgrading to the soloist. Am I in for suprise or disappointment? All I want is a much improved HD-650 (laid back headphone that is non analytical). I really like the HD 800 but its almost like I get sensory overload from them and cannot listen for long periods of time.

The LCD-3 really needs an amp with that "secret sauce" to trounce the LCD-2. Otherwise they sound very similar. I'd get a dac, then amp, then LCD-3. I've not read many glowing reviews of the Lyr and the 3 (though plenty with the LCD-2). It's way more than a 1k upgrade.

You are saying that LCD-3 is more than worth 1k in terms of an upgrade from the LCD2 rev. 2?

To me it sounds like he's saying the upgrade is more than worth it if you have the proper equipment in front of it.

This would be my position. I think he means the upgrade will cost more than 1K eventually, which I also agree.

Just kidding - anyway if you are getting the LL with 009 I can see why - but I am keeping my LF and LCD3 for the bedroom. Even the SR009 can't beat that creaminess sometimes! beyersmile.png

I really want to keep it, but I can't. I promised the little lady I would sell all my other stuff to fund the 009 set up. Plus it'd take way too long for me to save if I didn't sell the LF. Instant gratification and all that. :D

 

Who knows, maybe I'll pick up a rev 2 when Alex drops those.

To sound better than the LCD2, you'll have to spend more than just the 1k difference in price between the 2. If it's worth it or not is really up to your wallet.

Worth it works like this.  Is there anything between the 995 and 1945 that you'd rather have?  No? Worth it.  If yes, then not worth it.
