So were you arguing that the toilet paper mod doesn't make a difference or something else?  Also, where'd you get 30 from?

One could always imagine a search function.  Though if one doesn't use it, it might not exist at all in their world.  Seek and ye shall find.  wink.gif

Anyone tried the 5-ply mod?  Makes a $2000 headhone sound just like.....well, a $2000 headphone with toilet paper stuffed in it.

If I owned a $2K headphone that required stuffing toilet paper in the drivers in order for me to enjoy it I would not own it very long.  If it came out that some manufacturer was using a toilet paper baffle in their headphones as a standard feature I'd probably think twice about owning a pair.  But that's just me.  I'm crazy that way. I want my cake and eat it too... without toilet paper on it.  That said, the samples of LCD-3's  I heard at RMAF  sounded damn good to these ears.  In the spirit of full disclosure. I did not notice if there was toilet paper involved with those particular samples. confused_face%281%29.gif

For all we know, a modded veiled pair brings it up to the level of a non-veiled LCD3 (RMAF, Jude's, MH's, etc.)

This inconsistency (reports of veiled and non-veiled pairs) is only reason why I wouldn't be happy - having to apply a mod to achieve the what people were hearing with the "good" LCD3s is not right.

That is exactly what happened. I can't say it was miraculous because I had a measurement system to give me feedback, thus allowing me achieve the target response (LCD2r2) with very few iterations. I don't know how you missed the post/thread on the TP mod and measurements - there was quite lot of discussion about it. Just do a Google search on ToiletPants (one word.)

Agreed, it is not right.  For all we know adding a feather, or a sardine, or Guildfords of Maine fabric, or any number of things between the transducer and ones ear might have a pleasing affect to a number of people.  Personally, I have higher expectations than in depending on the necessity of doing some DIY mod to a premium piece of very expensive equipment in order for it to perform as it should.

This is the first image to come up in the search of "Toiletpants".  Perhaps we have some members who can translate.  Looks like it may entail some savings in toilet paper.  All the more for you LCD-3 owners!

I love how geometrical the toiletpants are, for some reason. Like a big diamond diaper worn by a Borg.

They actually look a bit like Sennheiser had something to do with their design.  beyersmile.png

I'm pretty happy with my LCD-3s so far. Will probably give the TP mod a try even though I believe my pair is not one of the veiled ones (do believe in the veil because I found that one of the local retailers here in Singapore had a veiled demo unit). I personally concur with much of Skylab's opinions on the LCD-3s, though I do find the Stax 007 mk2 to be an arguably better phone still with regards to certain technicalities such as transients. All in all though, very pleased. It's like the LCD-2 Rev 1 perfected :D

Resistance is futile.  You will be assimilated.

Great to hear that you're satisfied with your LCD-3. I am too and am puzzled by all the talk about it sounding veiled. We should do a mini-meet in SG with anyone who owns a pair of LCD-3, just to  satisfy ourselves that our LCD-3s are not 'veiled'.

Why is this?  I've haven't been following this thread religiously but didn't Audeze say there were issues so why is it puzzling that some people have bad ones and a good percentage have good ones?

Some people want to justify their purchase and feel good about it.  It's natural, I guess.
