They make your headphones $15,000 louder?

I dont know guys, but the LCD-3 just convinced me to buy the LCD 2 with that nice leather headband. Ill get the 3 in a year or two when the price is down. Im not saying the 3 cost too much, most of you dont mind, but it is too much for me. I cant wait for my LCD 2 and I wont feel bad owning them. Dang, why did they have to be $1,900+, I was ready to buy at maybe $1,400 to $1,600.

They need to have a pre-order price of like $1500 for a limited time. Offer good till  the end of week.

Nice Picture!
I think the LCD-2s to me at least are the best looking cans on the market. Same for LCD-3 but I don't really like the yellow lettering on the LCD-3 or the color of the wood...

Hahaha... yes, of course, I'd like to have a sexy pair of headphones so I can put them on every morning, look at myself in the mirror and feel good about myself. You know, because I need that. ...lol. No no no... if I wanted that, I would purchase a pair of Dr Dre cans to try and look cool.

Just saying that there couldn't be any harm in putting a little more effort into the design aesthetics of the heaphones. Again, just a personal preference. Will I still buy a pair? Probably... just to hear what they sound like. Will I also buy a pair of HD800's? Definitely, and for the same reason.  But if like both about the same, I know which of the two I would keep. ... that's IF I liked both the same.

Anyway, Windsor, that's a nice shot you took (assuming you took the pic) of your LCD's...

Me 2. My faves were the original 2010 LCD-2s though, loved the darker wood. I have found that my lighter rev-2s have darkened up after being placed under sunlight for extended periods of time.

Agreed on the color of the wood. Like the darker wood on the LCD-2's for sure.

Treat the wood every week with the supplied wax when you first get them, I did and the wood on mine when a nice rich dark colour within a month, also it popped out the grain of the wood nicely.

Can also report that the leather responds really well with the supplied wax. I posted about this a couple months ago and I know Alex is trying it out on a test piece of leather before official recommendation but I have been doing it since the end of May and the leather on my set is wonderfully supple and comfortable using the supplied wood wax!

They all are, even the 009.  But both are less technically flawed than others regardless of tonality.

I just thought of an ingenious plan! I'm going to unscrew the metal plates off my LCD-2s, sand off the 2 and replace it with a 3. Than i'll use a highlighter and highlight the white letters so they look yellow!  Not sure about the wood though... any tips? tongue_smile.gif

Hmm, well, it's approximately the same color as mayonnaise.

I'm not sure why so many people are posting that the LCD-3s 'better' match the SR007/009 and similar upper echelon headphones.  At least based upon the research I've done on orthos, in terms of SQ, orthos don't seem designed to be an immediate substitute for electrostats, and I'm unsure why some people have the expectation that a cheaper product has the mandate of outperforming a more expensive one.

I do hope the LCD-3s live up to its billing in the PR, and that they're superior to the HD800 as, based on my listening, neither the LCD-2 R2 or HD800 are an optimal dynamic headphone for me.  If they are the bee's knees, then I'd be happy to make significant changes to my upgrade plan, but all the expectations and assumptions I'm reading seem to be grounded only in wishful thinking.

On the original LCD-2 product page, they compared Tyll's measurements to waterfall plots of the 007s from a Japanese site. It's no secret they have 'stats in their sights, as traditionally they have been the best performing headphones available, though now there is a lot of serious competition with some of the dynamic flagships that have come out.

For me, the LCD-2s lack the ability to show full instrument separation in classical music. The 009s have no trouble with this.  However, I have far more choices when driving the LCD-2s, so I can get an enjoyable listen with them with most types of music, more so than the 009s.

LOL!  Upgrade desire is a serious impulse.  I have it for sure but I have decided to save for the Mini Maggies instead and even if I don't end up getting them it's a good distraction until the urge passes.   unless of course Skylab posts that he has heard the LCD-3 and fell into a walk towards the light, walk towards the light sonic calling.  Then I think we are all doomed or at the very least destined to suffer the upgrade desire at an intensive care unit for a very long time or at least until the LCD-3 has its first driver failure.  very_evil_smiley.gif

Unfortunately I don't have many chances to listen with speakers. I'm still considering a desktop near-field rig for those times though. However, if there is a $1500 pre-order special then I'm sold for sure. If they've taken the driver design significantly further then I'll be most pleased.

I think the stock cable is very good. However I do think that the aftermarket cable I have here improves the sound, subtly, but significantly enough over the current stock one. The improvement is behind a good choice of tubes in the Stacker II or behind a good source and amp, but it only costs a couple of hundred, which is fraction of the cost of my system, so I feel it is worth it, for me.

excellent observation. are you suggesting Sylafari spread mayo on it and then add a few layers of clearcoat?
