Wow for $2K you shouldn't have to use a wood plane on your cans! very_evil_smiley.gif

Where does it say you have to (or even recommend it for that matter)?

Absolutely hilarious the bit in the manual about using an amp with at least a couple of Watts output for best results. That is almost exactly what I suggested for the LCD-2s, though I wasn't the only person to suggest it. Now I'd say at least 1W at 50 Ohms, but I can't help wondering about how that suggestion in the manual came about.

What a loving expression on your child's face, must have a great wife. Congrats!!

Anyway i am # 641, and it looks like there is no chance of it coming Monday.

His profile pictures have always just been adorable to me as well.

On topic...anything else interesting in that manual?

I tried the Lyr with the LCD-2, and didn't feel there was a huge difference in SQ between it and my Nuforce, which has 1/20th the power of the Lyr.

Those three pages are pretty much all of the manual... There is a back page which says how you get support and how you "recycle" the LCD3...

Yes.  Audeze has been working with me over the past year to develop a state of the art recycling facility here in Palo Alto, California.  If anyone is interested, just send me a pm and I'll set you up with the details on shipment.

Testing it on my fully balanced portable "brick" rig in office:

iPhone 4S -> CLAS -> iBasso PB2 -> SR71B.

Of course it deserves something better - e.g. my home rig - but even on this portable system, its sound is sublime. Listening to Jane Zhang's 有時候 and 上一章 in her latest album. These are very good songs with mids, highs, and sudden big change in dynamics towards the end. Her sound is so engaging and strong that if your gear isn't good enough her voice may sound harsh. The LCD3 just handles every aspect quite perfectly.

Again, whether it is worth the extra thousand is up to one's own decision. I think I will have a conclusion once I try it on my home rig tonight. To me, it is likely it is worth the extra thousand, if not more.

The shockingly signifcant variances (between different sets and left/right transducer) reported on LCD-2 at different frequency ranges by you and others have kept me at bay on the LCD-3. I hope they take QC a bit more seriously now that people are shelling out $2k for one of these things.

I'll take a guess here that you don't listen very loud. The music only really seemed to jump out at me when using amps that had a fair bit of power. Without, everything sounded rather  dull.

I thought I got a pretty good pair of the Rev 1 since it was made at the times when you had to wait for months and before the problematic driver problem came out. And I also auditioned the Rev 2 when it came out - a little bit better extension but still not as good as the LCD3. LCD3's bass is better by far IMO. Listening to Hotel California live from Hell Freezes Over - ohhhhhhhh this is what I call bass.................

Before that and the D07,I was just driving the Leben and LCD2 with the Hifiman 801 line out and was happy with it.  I have extensively compared with my ears brands such as DAC Magic, Benchmark, Grace, Lavry, Musicland, Burson, CLAS, HPP1, And the higher end ones like Chord, Linn, Playback Design, EMMLabs, Esoteric, Weiss and Antelope. I actually brought my Leben and LCD2 with me for the various auditions. It is true that not every DAC or player in the latter category beats the ones in the first category, but towards the top models of the latter category the difference became more clear and significant, to a point that listening to the LCD2 through the Hifiman was no longer acceptable.

Any perfomance to price notables in your higher end list of DAC's, for those who don't have have a US$16K+ budget?
