Which amp for AKG K701/K702/Q701 Schiit Lyr vs Burson HA160?

Hi all. I'm an ex-headfier who's coming back to the game. The itch have returned and I now must get a new set of headphones. My musical background is mainly rock - guitar driven music, from old school rock n' roll, alternative, progressive and heavy metal.

Now for the technical part. My home setup includes an Alessandro MS-1 running off the headphone out of a Rotel integrated amp (I'm into speakers too) and my DAC is the infamous Storm DAC from several years back. These are hooked up to a PC with an EMU 0404 PCI.

My portable setup includes a Rockboxed old IPod colour, which sounds better than the new iPhones IMO, with Shure E4C IEMs.

I'm looking to upgrade my home setup. Although the MS-1 are great for slight overdriven guitar sounds, it's not the best for more analytical stuff i.e. Pink Floyd. Personally, I prefer an analytical sounding headphones with wide soundstage and lean tight bass hence why the AKGs I listed in the title. The kind of sound signature where I can pinpoint where each instruments are coming from in the mix.

Given my headphone of choice and musical taste, which amp would you recommend? After doing some research, it came down to the Schiit Lyr and Burson HA160, taking into account the possible tube rolling combination that the Lyr is capable of.

I won't be changing my source since I like the warm and 3D presentation that my DAC gives.

There are more choices for the Kxxx line, take a look at the thread posted by acix.

Here's another one:

If you included those 2 I'd suggest you keep yourself open to the Violectric v200 - read the review thread over here:

Imo, lyr beats the burson for 701s but keep an open mind, the violectric is also a great option as mentioned above.

I notice you're in australia. Maybe you have a chance to try the 160? I'd contact them asking where i can audition one unit.

I appreciate the V200 suggestion but it's over my budget. At least what I'm comfortable spending on a headphone amp.
