Precide Ergo 2's w/ Amp 1 (Headphones need pads, amp needs minor repair)
Will Ship To: North America
I bought these from Duggeh a few years back, and they're the best headphones I've ever had (also owned Grado 225's and Etymotic ER-4's) - but both the phones and the amp need work, and I'm just not the DIY type. I haven't used them in a year or two because of it, and now it's finally time to pass them on to someone who can maintain them better than I.
The Ergo 2's suffer the following minor issues:
1) one side has something that is loose within, and it rattles ONLY when the headphones are turned upside-down. I've never once heard a rattle while simply listening to music.
2) The foam that goes behind the ears has completely disintegrated and been thrown away. Also, the foam pads over the grills have begun to wear away also, with small holes in each. The headband foam, however, remains intact, and unaffected as far as I can see.
The amp suffers from only one issue, and though the problem is a major one, the fix for it is likely quite simple. When I first received the amp, I noticed that, when used with low impedance headphones, there was audible but relatively quiet background hiss. In an attempt to help the problem, I tried to turn up the gain through two tiny holes on the back. It didn't make any difference with the background hiss, but I did unfortunately bend the left gain transistor within, and strip the grooves out of its gain control knob. The amp worked fine for years afterwards, but when the foam began to break apart, I put it away in the closet for a year or two. When I took it back down to give it another listen, I no longer got any kind of output to the left-side feed, regardless of which pair of headphones I tried to use in it. Until this issue is fixed, the amp is basically unusable for even casual listening.
If you can fix both of these, then their value will be greater than my asking price; I believe each item sells new for somewhere between $150 and $200. These are very subtle phones, with a very wide soundstage, and the amp is perfectly attuned with them. If I knew how to fix either, I simply wouldn't sell them.
