I have been on a trip and stupidly left my nano at home. Being a jogger and being gone for over a week, i needed some tunes.
I was in Best Buy and they were just putting them out. I picked up the 4GB for $50
A couple of observations. They have greatly expanded the codec support compared to the last time I played with a Sansa player including AAC, OGG, FLAC.
I had forgotten how nice it can be to have physical buttons especially if you normal stash the player in a pocket.
The usb adapter is of the microusb variety so it uses the same cable as my phone; one less cable to carry
It has a very different sound signature than my nano, at least on my Shure 425's . I can't say better or worse yet, just different and I don't have my nano to do side by side comparisons. However I would describe the sansa as maybe having more detail but colder sounding compared to may nano.
Having AAC support sealed the deal since I use iTunes normally and most of my music is in AAC.
One thing I have noticed related to that is that when playing AAC files I am hearing occasional "choppiness" in the sound. It's very minor, but you notice it with close listening. For those old analog era guys (like me) the sound is similar to the small dropouts you would get with cassettes that have been played too many times.
Anybody have any ides about what might be causing that?
Anyway, I like the player overall and it was well worth the $50.
