Best speakers for a Titanium Hd sound card - Upgrade from Logitech Z5500

Hi Head Fi and members,

 

A scenario.  Lets say you owned a Titanium Hd sound card..

 

And had a budget of £500..

 

What would be the best 2 speaker set to buy for playing music?  Not too loud as they would be for a small property 3 bedroom semi detached.  All styles of Flac format will be played using foobar2000 and the wasapi plugin.

 

And is it worth upgrading my Logitech Z5500 speakers for a better system to connect to the card via optical, as i'm aware the optical bypasses all functions of the card.  This would be primarily for playing Hd movies in Power Dvd.  

 

I'm used to the clarity of my Sennheiser 595 headphones and a speaker set which would give me clarity on that scale would be grand. 

 

Is there an amazing set of speakers out there for the money I have?

I would say just stick to the Z-5500.

Yeah, currently the Z-5500 is the best you can get right now for the money. You'll need to pay significantly more than that to get something better.

Do you see whathifi/AVS recommend boxed 5.1 pc speakers for music? Get a power/stereo amp and a pair of good bookshelf/floor standers In fact this is more a cans forums so drop down those sites mentioned for proper musically inclined speakers suggestions. Dip in the used audio market to hit superior SQ/$$ and i suppose in the UK that would be sites like Gumtree, etc tongue_smile.gif

A month ago, i purchased these speakers(Kef Q100's) for $400 at the Gitex sales in dubai, and i purchased a decent onkyo amp alongside it, and it's been producing the best sound ive heard in years, call me an idiot but my headphones cant even compare (D5000's/AD2000's), sod all the money i spent on headphones, you wont regret Kef speakers for music listening, especially anything electronic, it sounds like its ripping the track apart (Thats clarity for you).

 

Remember, if you go for this setup, the amplifier and DAC matter.

 

If you can strain your budget a bit, you wont regret it, (strain it some more and get the Q300's :3)
