I've had my UM3X for about 4 months now and I love them, however, over the past few weeks I've noticed that the left ear piece is kind of rattling. For example, with the monitors in my ears, tapping on the left ear piece with my finger produces a "hollow" sound, not so on the right, it sounds solid. Is this something I should be concerned with? The sound quality is still as good as ever and as far as I can tell nothing has changed other than when i tap on them. I've tried examining the outer shell for cracks or maybe seperation at the seam, but I can't see anything. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? It's the RC model and I bought them off ebay so I doubt they have a warranty. Thanks.

Check on Westone's website. I know there was a recall for this exact problem, pretty sure it also covered out-of-warranty UM3X's, specifically the removable-cable version.

Thanks, I knew this was a problem with the earlier releases but I thought it was fixed with the orange dot box which I have. Ill send them an email and see what they say.

Yes, I had a similar problem in 2009 and received a new one in exchange. It did not affect the sound but it did tinkle when I tapped it gently.
Westone's customer service is amongst the best.
