Hey folks, its my first post here but i have been following the forum for quite some time now.I bought audioengine a2s this summer and they are good.I am not adept with equalizers and placement of these speakers.

1)I mostly listen to blues and rock.what equalizer to use.a rough idea atleast?

2)Should i form an "outer" setup or an "inner" setup for a wide sound stage.I hope you guys understand this.

3)I have been using my sony vaio sound card to feed the speakers.Any DAC suggested to play along with A2s.Budget for DAC around $100.

Hey rocky,

1- Check this:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/503389/audioengine-a2-eq-settings

2- Care to elaborate on this question? speaker positioning?

3- For a budget of $100 take a look at the Zero dac.

Hope this helps.

yes.positioning.cannot find a suitable equalizer settings on that thread.

listening to metal is turning out to be fatiguing.any suggestions regarding proper positioning?

1. and 2. : desirability of EQ and positioning have nothing to do with the kind of music you're listening to.  If you don't like the suggestions in the thread fabio linked for you, it would be helpful for you to say why.  Then we can help you.

3. Choice of DAC has nothing to do with the speakers you're using; they're competently designed or they aren't.

When it comes to Eq settings, you need to try different combinations to find out what you like. Regarding positioning, the recommended is 1 or 2 ft from the rear wall and 2 ft away from the side walls. You can also switch positions, play around.

Don't go too crazy, dacs are really good these days.  They shouldn't sound any different from one another.  You might find better advice in the sound science forum, I know that's not technically what it's for, but it's a place you can get away from all the silliness that pervades the rest of the forums.

Thanx a ton....guys....it was really helpful.

A2s are highly sensitive to position and audio quality .....320 kbps and 128 kbps are like night and day...

though differentiating flac and 320 is bit subtle,,,,

willA2s benefit from a DAC..?

Thank you guys...

Here's a thread that may interest you:

I think most audio gear benefit from a Dac. Opinions on the thread above are different, but the best you can do is to try by yourself.

Which music player are you using? ever tried Foobar?

Hey guys, I have this A2 hooked up with NuForce HDP for a while now and I'm wondering would there be any sound difference between using the A2's input stereo mini-jack or the A2's RCA input? the A2's will be connected through the analog output of my HDP.
