I actually enjoy both tubes and ss equally, maybe with a very very slight preference to SS due to previous experiences experience. The main difference for me is in how well the amp's "reproduce" the material. I'm sorry for not knowing the appropriate terminology, but in essence things like "colouration" do not phase me. My only help is the analogy of some amps being coloured, yet still accurate in their own right (and rightfully so), being worth several times others which may be discerned as "reproducing the music as it is" - if that makes any sense. Once again, I apologise for being unable to describe the things I've been hearing.

Oh, I'm very sorry if I offended you in any way!! It was not my intention. It seems I automatically assumed (incorrectly) that you were familiar with both products since you regarded the Burson 160D quite highly.

No offence taken.

I think it would be hard to look past the nfb-10 esp at that price.  I have the -10es and love it.

with the lyre you could do the nfb-3 or the -2. (I'd probably do the 2)

The 160D is an Amp/Dac/Pre, what more can you ask on its price range?

i think the burson is a good choice only if soundstage is not one of your priorities as i feel it is quite poor in that area. another amp/dac maybe u would like to consider is the dacmini:) pairs pretty well with the lcd2!

I personally like its soundstage presentation with audeze's. (this combination really sings)

Does anyone have any comments on how the NFB-5 would perform with the LCD-2s, esp in comparison to a DAC+Lyr combo?

i a/b it with the woo audio wa6se and some heed audio amp and thought it was much smaller and slightly congested, but it could be that the other 2 amps are particularly good in soundstaging.

Not everyone likes a big soundstage. Sometimes an engaging and intimate soundstage is best. wink.gif

I've heard several people say they like the nfb-10 over the lyr.  I have the -10 and I'm not getting rid of it.  I've used about 10 different AGD products but not the -5.
