Just picked up the LCD-2

Now i just need a Amp & DAC.

What are the main differences?

Which is your favorite?

Please be straight with your point.

Do not include different Amps/DACs and clutter the thread.

I voted for the Lyr-Bifrost since imo, the lyr with the right tubes thumps the burson. However, not having heard the Bifrost yet, its hard to day which would be overall the best.

FINALLY A RESPONSE!!

Thank you I really appreciate it!

Any kind of input is helpful.

btw which tubes do you consider to be the right tubes?

I like the burson for the features, but the quality of the sound it produces would be much more crucial.

Haha, np. Glad I could help. I personally like the cryo 6n23s and the lorenz pcc88 with my lyr. You should experiment and find your personal favourite, its fun. The burson 160d sounds pretty darn good too, so if you get the chance go and try it with the LCD 2s, you may find that you prefer it in fact.

Early reports of the bifrost this week - and these are early - suggest it might be special. Without doubt, the Lyr is a very capable and tunable amp. The two might be a hard-to-beat combination.

I have not heard the Burson.

You need at least another two weeks to get more impressions and Skylab's review of the bifrost though. ATM, only a few dozen people have received their pre-order units.

I have not heard the lyr but i do possess a burson ha160 headphone amp and a ray samuels otl raptor headphone amp.I have recently acquired a audeze lcd2 headphone. The phone seems to have settled in pretty well after a week of pounding it with cds and movies.I am using a denon 3931ci cd player with an upgraded hifi tuning fuse and a kubala sosna emotion power cord.I have also upgraded the fuse in the raptor with a gold hifi tuning fuse as well and am also using it with a kubala sosna emotion power cord as well.I have compared the sound of the amps with the audeze lcd2 and imho i find the sound of the burson somewhat wanting in comparison to the sound emitted from my raptor.I should add that i have upgraded the fuse in the burson with a hifi tuning silver star fuse(I tried agold fuse as well and I prefered the silver fuse in the burson) and used the kubala power cord on the burson.

The raptor has a much more dimensional presentation with much better tonal qualities than the burson.I find that the raptor has no difficulties driving the lcd2.I also imho find the clarity and bass as well to me better defined with the raptor. If you are considering a suitable partner for the lcd2 without an integral dac I believe you would be doing yourself an injustice by not considering the ray samuels raptor otl amp as a partner for your audeze lcd2 phone.                                                                       buson160man

I have since upgraded the fuse on the cd player to a hifi tuning supreme fuse and also have bought a new cd player the onkyo c5svl sacd/cd player.I have to readjust my opinions of the burson in light of the changes I made, I now find the burson ha-160 to be the superior matching partner with my audeze lcd2 rev 2.The burson now has much better image definition than the raptor with superior low level detailing as well as better dynamic reproduction . The burson really sings with the  emotion power cord and silver star fuse when using the  lcd-2 rev 2 phones.

Funny how changes in ancillaries such as fuses and power cords can affect the  performance of setups so dramatically. But that is what makes the chase to obtain the best sound that you can get out of your equipment so rewarding and worth the effort. I must add that I find the onkyo sacd/cd player was a very worthwhile purchase.I bought the player when a friend of mine told me about this player(c5svl). I took a chance and bought the player thru amazon at a substantial discount (42 percent off) and I found that it bested my denon 3930ci on both cd and sacd reproduction.I attribute this imo to be largely the wolfson 8742 chip used in the player which seems to be popping up in some new cd players these days(cambridge 651,rega apollo as well as the new rega dac,and the ps audio perfectwave dac to mention a few). The onkyo is I feel a good way to hear the wolfson 8742 chips performance at a very resonable cost.
