Steve Jobs's passing

Hey guys, the inventor of that iPod you (might) have in your portable rig passed away today. MY feelings go out to his family and friends and anyone who felt strongly about him and his changes he made to the world. RIP Steve Jobs

It is most definitely the end of an era. I was never a Mac kind of guy, but Jobs was definitely a foremost innovator of his industry.

This, coupled with the lackluster new iPhone/iPod releases, tells me Apple's stocks are really going to take a beating tomorrow.

Also, this thread should be in the Discussion Lounge.

For the record Steve Jobs did not invent the iPod. A team lead by Jon Rubinstein did.

Its my understanding that Steve had a finger in every pie from the time he rejoined Apple to the day he realised his cancer was back. Regardless of who actually led the team that designed/built the iPod/iPhone/whatever, you can guarantee that they had plenty of input from Steve Jobs.

Agreed!

It's worth noting that Jobs held 313 patents....himself!

I agree that Jobs probably had a lot of input as well. But it seems like all the little guys dont get credit when it is due and the ceo/owner of the company gets the full credit.

Yep, and if you ever sign an employment contract, I can almost guarantee that it will stipulate that anything you design/develop/create remains the sole property of the company that pays your salary. When you first leave University, you are so happy just to be offered a job that you will sign whatever they put in front of you - later in life, it just becomes a question of how much they are paying you. Many people felt bad for Stan Lee when the movie franchises started making big money for his creations, and the media claimed he was 'only' paid a million a year by Marvel - I suspect that when he signed that contract, Stan was over the moon to be paid to do something he loved. Without the resources provided by Apple (or whoever) a lot of the 'unknown soldiers' would never have gotten out of their garages. Its a team effort, and I'm sure they are amply rewarded with stock options worth more with each passing day.
