Good news, competition is always a good thing. When the Wadia iPod transport came out years ago it was $$$, but after a couple of years we now have cheaper options like the iStreamer. Hopefully the same sort of thing will happen to portable transports. I think if you're going to do an all-in-one you really need to get the amp stage right, as we've seen with the Fostex and it's reference DAC but average amp stage. I'd personally prefer just a transport/DAC because you then have more leeway to pick an amp that goes well with your headphones/IEMs.

This is a review of a pair of free IEM's I recieved from DUNU as part of a give away contest they recently held here on Head-fi. When I recieved my package the first thing I notices was...

Best closed headphones I had heard - very flat response, almost no midrange distortion, very easy to drive (good for portable), good soundstage (definately better than K240), good isolation, but...

Overall excellent buds, very good sound quality, especially for their price, the medium set of tips fits exactly in my ears and provides a near perfect seal. Bass is very detailed, but not...

I'll keep this very short. They are very smooth sounding. Treble toned down so not so good for rock but have a magic about them that makes them better than mark 2. I use them with a '89/'90...

Agreed.... Everyone's taste and requirement are different when it comes to amp. Leave it out and concentrate on making the dac section. Make this compact and with balanced and single end out.

Indeed. I think it has to be a case of K.I.S.S if you want the price to stay low. Let's focus on getting a good digital transport and nice DACs first and foremost, no bells and whistles, just something that sounds great that we can then pair with an amp of choice to match whatever we're putting on or in our ears.
