I really need some expertise

I do not know what to look for, and from researching different types of headphones I can NOT figure out what type would best suit my favorite genre of music.

I am a computer programmer by day (and by night :'( ) and I listen to chillwave music, and sometimes classical.

I don't know if anyone here has ever heard of any chillwave music but it's basically just a really chill genre of music that you can chill to easily.

What headphones would be suit me?

thanks for your help

You want airy, open and light

Best closed option :-

Audio Technica W1000X

Best open option :-

AKG K601 & K701

Someone might suggest the Beyer DT 990 but I have not heard them.

Best of the bunch under $500.

Beyer DT880 or K701 are the first things that come to mind, they're both open and great for classical but K701 will be a little more open and possibly more detailed than the DT880.

For musicality: DT880 (Still not very musical but definitely the less analytical out of the two).

For hearing what an audio engineer might hear: K701.

Heya,

I just ran those tracks through a few headphones. I really liked them on the D2000's and D5000's by Denon. Good thump, nice sound stage, comfortable. They were really chill on the Sennheiser HD650's too, very mellow and easy going with good thump and body. So depending on budget, I'd go D2000 or HD650 (or even HD600 if you want some sparkle) for some chill wave. Some less bassy options would include the DT880 PRO and AudioTechnica AD900. And you could take a look at the Ultrasone HFI 2400 too if you want another bassy option to explore.

Very best,

I'd choose the HD600's over the 650's on that music genre Imo. Its more forgiving with weak sources.

While from the description, I would have thought they would pair well with the AKG - when actually listening, through the K702 I found them quickly fatiguing. Something that mellows the sound more - Sennheiser sound - probably is the way to go for Chillwave. They must have been mixed/mastered on something not very bright/treble heavy... yeesh.

If you're just kickin' it, HD600's are the shizzle. The comfort and ability to run off of anything with a volume knob half the time rules.

They also can scale with high end equipment if life ever takes you down that path too

I have been looking at the denon ahd2000's for a couple months but i've been waiting and hoping that the price would have another drop in price to about what they were last year at this time.

What do you think about Pro 900's for this genre of music? I have seen a couple reviews on them with techno music.

I hear the Sennheiser HD25-1 II are the "industry standard" for any kind of electronic music, any thoughts?
