Not sure if the LCD3 pads are the same as the newer LCD2 pads, but they are way more comfortable than the original pads and sound slightly better. Glasses wearer.

Difference in sound depends a bit on how old your pads are / what dust protector was used. New pads were a lot softer compared to my very old rev1 pads - also with glasses, but there is also that suction effect that sometimes happens.

My LCD-2 rev.1 with Purrin's TP mod is the perfect headphone for me.

I know the LCD-3 & LCD-X might be better but I'm choosing to stay in the "ignorant is bliss" for the sake of my wallet.  :D

I had the old pads on my Rev1 and the new pads on my Rev 2. Not much difference but the new pads is a hair more comfortable for me. I wear glasses but I am never so (self censor) I have the scalms between my ears and ear cups. No headphone yet has been to big to have the glasses on top of the ear cups. That include JVC DX 1000, Audeze LCD-2, markl D5000  and HD 800. 0,0 headphones you have to have the scalms inside the ear cups.

Thanks for the info everybody, it's sounds like they are worth the investment. Oqvist, thanks for the tip of putting the arms on top of the pads, I never thought of that but I'll try it out (I think this is what you mean, since I couldn't find out what scalms are when I googled the term; please correct me if I'm wrong though)

Some head-fier here thaught?? me that term for the glasses arms but perhaps he tought me wrong then lol.

Hi all,

I'm currently using T1s and looking to add a new phone to the collection. LCD 2s were high on my list, but I'm worried they'll lack treble energy for my tastes. I'm not a treble head and occasionally find the T1s to be a touch too forward up top, but I also enjoyed upgrading from my HD650s because I craved a bit more high end life and detail.

Do you think the LCD 2s will be too dark?

Other potentials are HE500 or HD800.

I think a lot of it depends on your amp. For example, the Mjolnir is a bit bright, which can make the lcd2 sound more balanced, which I imagine is why many people recommend that pairing. The Vali also works very well, providing pretty smooth treble, but maintaining a thick, sweet, and lively sound. I actually prefer the Vali because of this, since (at least in my setup) the lcd2 sounded a bit thinner off the Mjolnir. Anyhow, I guess my point is that, while you won't turn your lcd2 in an hd800, your amp can help reduce that dark signature.

Like you, I also prefer a headphone slightly tipped up in the top end. I had the same concern about the LCD2, but my fears were put to rest when I actually heard them. I'm using a very neutral amp, the Meier Classic.

Hey Focker! Long time no chat!

Do you find they resolve details sufficiently in comparison to the T1 (recognising the very different signatures)?

lol, I need to pay better attention to who I'm responding to....funny, I was just reading some of Tim's tweets earlier tonight! Was telling him how other seasons of BB just dont' compare to BBAUS'13.

I actually did find them as resolving as my T1s, and I'm a big fan of the T1s. I liked the 2s so much that I sent them back..planning to pull the trigger on the Xs very soon. That was very hard to do because I really fell for the 2s, especially with the new pads. They looked amazing, felt amazing, and sounded phenomenal. I love planar speakers and have for many years, so that may have something to do with it....my ears just respond really well to that sort of transducer. But yeah, I felt as if I I was hearing into the music as well as with the Beyers for sure. They became my favorite headphones within about two weeks of owning them.

LOL - I wondered if you remembered!

That's good to hear about the LCDs. Now you have me wondering if I should go for the 2s or save up for the Xs. I guess it's not that much more for the X so maybe that's the go.

lol, heck yeah...nobody here in the states has any idea who Tim is, so when I saw him as your avatar a while back I thought it was awesome. I really miss that guy! I miss the Sugar Sisters, too, but don't tell anyone :)  Tim's been hanging out at Dreamworld with Tahan...putting lotion on her bum....that guy knows how to live! haha

I decided to go for the Xs for two main reasons: 1) I LOVE the fact that they are easier to drive. There is just enough room in that Pelican case to put a small portable amp, and that will allow me to have amazing sound when I head to Biloxi for a weekend of poker and blackjack, or at the office, or wherever else. 2) Even though I know they wont' be 1.5x as good as the LCD2s, given the law of diminishing returns, I can't resist having more of a good thing. An earlier post in the LCD-X thread indicated that the poster was disappointed that they were only about 20% better than the 2s....to which I said, if I also find them about 20% better, I'd be THRILLED by that. I've also seen enough glowing feedback from people I trust on here (at least in terms of their evaluations of headphones...lol) that I feel confident they are a clear step up from the 2s.

In short, I just couldn't resist....though I do wish I could get a pair of the Xs in Bamboo, cause that was beautiful to look at in person.

LOL. You really have stayed in touch with the BBAU goings on. What do you think of Jade and Ed still being together and looking solid? I wouldn't have picked it!!

And on topic, do the X's still keep the liquid, smooth presentation of the 2s? I would love it if I would be happier with the LCD 2s based on the price and a preference for the Bamboo too, but it sounds like the Xs do everything I was worried the 2s wouldn't (i.e. closer to neutral, resolving, clean, etc.)
