At this juncture my intermediate conclusion was this: One, the LCD-2 with an aftermarket harness was far too accomplished already to leave much room for improvement. Two, the LCD-3 is the more precise, linear and responsive. Three, it also sublimates some of the LCD-2's well-loved 'excesses'. Depending on how fond of those you were shall divide opinion on whether the LCD-3 is an unequivocal forward move or more of a sideways proposition.

Here's the problem. You quoted Srajan, while I quoted Marek.

Confusing because they're both recent September reviews.

I wonder as well. Would be very nice to have the LCD2 at home and the XC at work so I can listen full time. Helps that it looks absolutely gorgeous.

No doubt. If money wasn't an issue I would own all 4. Well not money more like wife is the issue. I guess I can always get rid of her and have my 4 Audez'es.

Rumoured prices are not friendly though. $1499 - 1699 for the X and XC models respectively.

The LCD-XC fills an empty niche in the Audeze line, but the LCD-X is a bit puzzling. The price is so close to the LCD-3, why wouldn't most buyers just go for the flagship? If the the LCD-X is a technological improvement over the LCD-3, how can Audeze continue to justify a premium for the LCD-3? Jude mentions the LCD-X has less bass than the LCD-3. The bass seems perfect on the LCD2/3s, not sure why that would be an improvement. I wonder if the LCD-X is a less-damped LCD with an airier presentation--or something else?

That's not the pricing. I wish it was, though. It's 1699/1799

I suppose nothing says, "Hey world--I've made it!", like zebrawood. Except maybe a pet zebra.
