I guess that's 4 cents of opinions then.

Now this is getting more interesting to me. I found the HE-6 I heard today gobsmacking visceral. I liked that. This being a meet I did pump the volume quite a bit. Not sure if I can make a call on whether I prefer the HE-6s over the LCD2.2s from just the meet time. But what I am trying to say is I can understand much better why someone would choose the HE-6 over the LCD2.2s as opposed to the HE-500s over the LCD-2.2s. :)

If I had to pick on something from what I've heard with the HE-6 it's the treble . It's not that it's not good, because it is, but I've heard better treble from other flagships.

Fact of the matter is, some people dig the LCD2s more, some others dig the HE500s more; there has been exhaustive comparisons between the two (check out the 28-page thread started by LugBug1) and it will continue for the foreseeable future. Let's just leave it at that.

Each to there own.

It's just great that there is a choice in phones and it's really great there are LCD2.2s. Tonight I cranked mine up good and hard for the first time and I gotta say I have just never heard anything that sounded like that. From Evanescence to Three Days Grace to Tool to Three Doors Down to Metallica I was just solidly blown away! These cans flat out rock!

Never really turned up the Mjolnir giving everything time to get broke in and what a revelation. I could turn the amp up to where I could literally not take it any higher and there was zero distortion and the bass was to die for. High hats and cymbals and screaming guitars just crystal clear so well I guess there is no veiled treble huh? Vocals just perfectly placed and really nice instrument separation. Mids well could it get any better? Bass line just walked right thru my consciousness woven in and around tight guitar riffs and vocals with kick drum slam...

I am sure there are cans that are better than these but you know what? It really does not matter. I am well and fully blown away. I can tell anyone out there that if you want a great versatile affordable system just get a Schiit Mjolnir, Gungnir, and a pair of Audeze LCD2.2s. Fully balanced and I am happy and just ecstatic. In the over 40 years I have been an avid music fan never heard music quite this good except at a live concert. Wow!

^ Indeed. The LCD-2 is god's gift to mankind. The audiophile world wouldn't be the same without it, and certainly a easy can to love and live with. I do miss it and this thread is making me add the LCD-2 to my shopping cart again... where is my credit card? I'm actually curious about how it would sound in my current setup. And the D7000 has less sub bass than the Mad Dog? Is today opposite day?

I mean, I can't tell if you're serious. The Denon has more sub bass presence than any of the cans you mentioned, by a long stretch. Mid bass, sure, the Denon doesn't have as much mid bass...

But ok. O_o

Then you have a faulty LCD2, as sub and mid bass should be almost 100% linear. The Pro 900 has a severe mid bass hump, with very little in the way of sub bass in comparison.

IMO

My HE-6  / PWDII / F1J rig trounces the LCD-2.2 in just about every category - It does the same to it's big brother.

I loved the bass on the LCD2's, the treble on the HE500's. Both have superb liquidy orthos mids. I lived with both for about 8 months and eventually sold the HE500's. This was only because I wanted something more contrasting. The LCD2's won simply because of my love of Jazz. Also the LCD2's are much easier to amp in respect of power requirements. The HE500's benefit from a little more wattage. Once they get this then they are defo up there with the best. If they are under fed then they can sound a little too relaxed.

Living with both is very fun and is the only way to properly appreciate both of them and find out how close to each other they are in actual performance. It's like living with TWO Kate Uptons, so hard to pick which one is more beautiful/sexy, depends on the day and what kind of music one is listening to.

Wow. If this is really true I would love to hear this combination. "Trounce" is a really strong word.

Good point. I use either the Lyr or the Soloist and I find that at a given volume level, the 500 is always more "languid" than the 2.2. My only question here for LugBug is if the afore-mentioned amps provide sufficient power to the 500. I think the Lyr should not have an issue in this regard.

Thanks
