I just purchased the uDac2, and it's excellent, a huge improvement over the uDac. I still heard a little something in symphonic music that was bothering me, so I tried the upsampler included with foobar and it definitely caused sound degradation, though very slight. I found the SoX upsampler which you can acquire here for free:

It provides a noticeable improvement.
What do I hear with SoX? More definition, every hint of strain in the upper registers is gone, sound is crystal clear. I hear that a Flute is an instrument powered by air, I can literally hear the woody texture of air whistling through the instrument.
FLAC -> 96khz SoX -> ASIO4ALL -> uDac2 is a very synergistic match for the HD650's, particularly if you listen to symphonic music and in particular, violin, flute etc. But improvements are not limited to these instruments or music types.
I think that if anyone wants to jump right in, and not spend too much money, this is a superb place to start & potentially end your search for reference quality sound.
