I thought i should say this but the issue is with head-fi's forum poster software box. If you click the source button it will be fixed.

Where is this source button?

The slow touchpad response is on any mobile browser I've used: Safari, Atomic and Opera; and it's only in the head-fi post box.

This is on head-fi.  Go to My Profile and edit your Account Settings.  There should be a choice under the forum sections to "constrain threads to constant width."

Thank you. How about making the dpi bigger? Is there an option for this or do I have to set it via the iPhone? How would I go about doing this?

Sorry for such a late response, but yes it does lag a little bit on my iPhone 4s. I guess it is just sucky Safari at work again. It really bother me that Apple won't let Mozzilla make a mobile firefox for iOS, it would fix so many things. Anyway I have no idea what you mean by fixed width, is this a head-fi setting or Safari setting?

First post...

I am attaching an article detailing each of the different digital to analog converters used by apple in its iPods and iPhones. Consensus seems to be that the earlier stuff using Wolfson DACs are superior to the later stuff using Cirrus DACs.  This is borne out by subjective and objective testing in the article and some provided links.

My personal preference has always been Wolfson (used in some Denon, Pioneer Elite gear I have owned), followed by Burr Brown (in NAD gear I have owned) with Cirrus (Marantz gear, Macbook Pro, iPod Classic 6th Gen) pretty much being crap... Have not yet heard the Sabre 32bit DACs (used in Oppo players), but they are very, very well regarded with incredible noise floors. Wolfson's are very musical with an analog quality to them. Cirrus are a bit more detailed and digital sounding (again, this is borne out by objective tests) - and can be harsh to some ears.  Of course, the DAC is only one component in the chain, so YMMV...

In any event, here is the article (note there is an error towards the bottom which lists the iPhone 4GS as having a Wolfson DAC - this is not correct... it uses a middle of the road Cirrus audio chipset:

I do not want to upset those loving the iPhone 4s by calling it crap, but from my personal experience the rockboxed ipod video is way better than the iphone 4s. It's so much better I almost want to call the iPhone 4s crap. wink_face.gif

Seriously I never heard of or knew anything about wolf's son before I rockboxed the babe. Once I had the first bite of the RB'd ipod video I knew instantly something was cooking. So I googled the ipod video and found that exact link. I was sold on wolf's son immediately after reading the info. Since then I have collected two more ipod videos and more on the way. Call me retarded if you wish. tongue_smile.gif

Obviously that's your personal taste. You are not offending anybody that knows what fidelity is all about.

iPhone 4S does not have roll off driving low impedances.it has a lower noise floor, lower output impedance and lower distorion. Thus iPhone 4S is objectively better. Noticiably better.

You like it dirty and rolled off and that's ok. The Wolfson legend is so old and boring at this point...what a lasting urban myth

I had been listening to iPhone 4s for about 4 months and thought it was pretty good until the moment I plugged my IEM into the rockboxed ipod video. Almost immediately I lost interest in iPhone 4s. The RB'd ipod video sounding provides better head stage, more clarity and details, and most significant is the much improved 3D imaging. In comparison the iPhone 4s sounds boring and lifeless and lacking dynamic range.
