A sound-stuff-illiterate person needs a (cheap if possible) amp to drive a pair of speakers

And that person is me.

Hi everyone, I'm totally new to this forum so I hope I'm doing things right. Anyways, I found a pair of Jamo CL 25, a Sony GX47ES receiver and a Sony CDP-C245 in a flee market for 50 bucks. I decided to plug it all up, and it sounded great, except for the bass. There's none actually. I thought it was because the foam ring around the lower speakers are completely ruined (these towers must be fifteen years old) but I asked on another board anyways, and they said that while it might not help, the amp in the receiver also might not be powerful enough to drive the Jamos.

So, can anyone recommend me an amp that could drive these speakers while keeping it as low-cost as possible?

Thank you.

Pictures if it may help:

You don't need a new amp. You need to replace those woofers in the speakers or find someplace that can re-cone them.

Well I did try to plug them on another amp (Denon DRA-545R) and it already sounded much better, so I really think a new amp would do a difference. Also, I found this: http://www.audio-parts.de/product_info.php?language=en&gm_boosted_product=Jamo-CL-25-Lautsprecher-Sicken-reparatur&Lautsprecher-Sicken-Reparatur=Jamo-Lautsprecher-Sicken-reparatur-set&Jamo-CL-25-Lautsprecher-Sicken-reparatur_html=&products_id=368& to refoam them. Does it look any good?

By the way, I think this could help:

Well if the Denon worked better, then there's probably something wrong with the Sony you've got.

As for the kit, if you think you're up to doing it yourself, go for it. It's certainly quite inexpensive.

Would you know of an amplifier that I could plug in between my receiver and the speakers?

You really need to refoam those woofers then try the Sony again....really. The hardest part is getting the old foam off, the rest is pretty easy if you're careful to center the cone. I've even seen people use duct tape to "refoam" the cone- it worked. You're not going to magically get bass with a different amp unless the Sony is defective.

Thanks. Do I need to replace the whole membrane or just changing the foam ring would be enough?

The cones look ok. It's the surround that's rotted.

Yes the foam ring- check eBay for kits that come with glue.

The kit I linked to previously includes glue and instructions :P

That website looks pretty good, but unfortunately it doesn't have anything for Jamo =/. But it does have "universal kits". Would these fit?

Email them, I have used them a couple if times and they will have something I'm sure.

Thanks, I'll try that.

Email them or call them.  I think they even offer a service to refoam but I'm not sure.  Good Luck.
