Need input: Dayton B652 + SUB-80 + Lepai TA2020 for electronic music?

Hi everyone,

I'm finally in a position to upgrade my speakers. I currently run a cheap 2.1 set of Dell AY410, which was an upgrade from a set of 5.1 Logitech X-530 (yes, believe me, it was an upgrade - bass is obviously not as good, but the mids are much much better). I run them through an Audigy 2 on Windows 7.

I listen to a lot of electronic music (progressive house, trance), so whatever set I upgrade to must have good, clean bass. I don't need the system to go too loud, as they will be used in an apartment. I will need speakers that provide a good nearfield listening experience, because I will have them on my computer desk. Having a "warmer" sound is a plus.

My room is decent sized - about 17'x12'. The computer desk is in the middle, against one of the longer walls.

Budget: $150

I'm considering a pair of Dayton B652 ($30), the Lepai TA2020 ($25) t-amp and a Dayton 8" SUB-80 ($90) for a total of $145. I've heard mixed reviews on the Daytons - people have lauded them for their audiophile quality sound (esp given their price point), but others have said that the Daytons sound pretty bland.

I also got in on a deal to get the M-Audio BX5a Deluxe pair for $149 (new).

So heres the question for you head-fi ers - what's the best value setup within my budget? Are any of these setups a better way to go than the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system or the Swan M10?

just wanted to add the M-Audio BX-5a Deluxe will obviously lack in the bass department, the question is - how much? i don't need thunderous  boomy bass or anything, as long as the music sounds well balanced and the bass is somewhat deep, i'll be fine.

bump. any thoughts?

The first set-up with the dayton sub will have 10x the low-end of the M-Audio's alone, but the m-audio's will likely have much better sound quality than a pair of $30 dayton's. I think you should spend a bit more on the passive speakers in the first set-up.

Thanks for the input JRG1990. Would you suggest I pick up the M-Audio's now and save up to add a subwoofer later? Or do you recommend going with the first setup (i.e. separate amp, passives + sub) but with a better set of bookshelf speakers?

Do you have any recommendations for the passives within my modest budget?

With lower power T-amps best to hit somewhat efficient speakers so if you could afford hit higher end ones and also have a look at Craiglist NY
