Hey HF,
I'm in need of a new set of headphones for use @ work. It's been a while since my last headphone purchase, so I'm a bit out of the loop.
Criteria are as follows:
- Under $300 total (preferably around $250)
- Closed
- Around the ear
- Amp not necessary
2 headphones come to mind from back when I was on Head-Fi daily...DT 770s (80 Ohm) and the A-900s. Did Beyer pull the newer versions of the DT 770s? The only ones I saw on their site are the old ones. The T70 looks similar to what the newer 770s looked like, yet costs quite a bit more...hummm.
I also like the plush leather pads (like the ones on the Beats Pro...crap cans I know, but they are damned comfortable). This is simply a want and not a requirement. I figure if I get the DT 770s, I can always change out the pads to the J$ leather pads. I'm unsure if there are any options available on the A-900s in this respect.
I listen to pretty much everything except country and classical.
To give a little history on my experiences and preference, I used to own HD650s, HD25 IIs, HD595s, SR60s, Super-Fi 5 Pros, E3cs, etc. + bunch of cables + a few amps and various other accessories. Out of everything I sold, I could not part with my E500s and Hornet M...and still have them today.
Would love any suggestions, as I have no idea what new good headphones are out. Thanks ahead.
Joe
