Help request: choosing a new USB sound card instead of PCI one.

Hello everyone!

I've just assembled my new PC and GPU is so huge that it blocks all the PCI slots on my MOBO (all two of them - don't even ask blink.gif). This means my beloved Juli@ has to go.

I'm looking for a USB card to replace Juli@ up to 200 bucks that has midi in for my midi keyboard, doesn't suffer x64 driver problems and is on par with Juli@ when comes to sound quality.

Thank you in advance!

And as an indirect answer to onboard sound vs discrete sound thread that contains so much mild trolling it's difficult to read - ALC889 is bad. beyersmile.png

it's not hard to get the same SQ as the Juli@, which is using a high jitter DSP off cheapie opamps fed from a very noisy PSU. Get a discrete USB MIDI interface, they're cheap as hell on ebay...otherwise you'll be stuck w/ low end semi-pro M-audio cruminess-like.

You kind of burst my bubble here. I was under the impression that Juli@ is a decent sound card.

Wouldn't a cheapie USB MIDI interface cause latency problems for me? (I don't know, just asking) And what are better sound cards for the price?

I use a firewire Focusrite Saffire Pro 24, it sounds pretty good to me, it also has midi

They have other units that utilize USB and have midi as well, they are cheaper than the Saffire Pro 24 to boot.

USB is entirely able to transport uber-slow MIDI data in a timely manner. I guess a simple MIDI interface, even from a big name won't cost you a fortune.

Define "better"?

Well I mean if it's not hard to get the same SQ as Juli@ it shouldn't be too hard to get better SQ than Juli@, right?
