Mdht Labs Stockholm DAC

Mdht Labs has released a new Asynchronous USB DAC called the Stockholm DAC. It is their new high end DAC.

It looks pretty interesting, and has a retail price of $1025.00. Given the popularity of the earlier Mdht Labs DAC's, I thought we should start a thread for it.

This is the manufacturers description:

Stockholm DAC is a successor model of the MHDT Labs Havana series DAC. It is capable of up to 24bits/192kHz digital signal inputs yet remains driving legendary PCM56P R-2R digital to analog output.

Stockholm DAC is a non over-sampling and no digital filter DAC. To maximize the performance of PCM56P R-2R dac chip, the Stockholm is designed to be in asynchronous operation between the digital receiver and the PCM56P chip.

The USB input section can be configured to be synchronous or asynchronous operation by firmware.

The vacuum tube installed in Stockholm DAC is GE JAN 5670W. The reason the 5670W was choosen is that this tube is very reliable, durable, good sounding and easy to find in today's market.

The typical life of GE JAN 5670W is about 6000-8000 hours. If you listen to music by two hours every day, you won’t have to care about tube’s life for nearly 10 years. The burn in time will take about 1 day for components and about one month for tube.

Tubes can be used: 5670, 2C51, 396A, 6385, 6386, 6CC42, 6854, 6N3, CV2575, CV4013, CV5894, CV8247, CV2381

Here is a picture of it:

This looks like an interesting DAC, for sure.

So, it's configurable to asynchronous through firmware?

Wondering if it's safe to say that, with this DAC, I could get rid of the SPDIF converters and what-not.

That would be an advantage, for sure.

I've been wanting to try a NOS tube DAC for a while.  And, if this one performs at least as well as the Havana is reputed to perform, then it will be at the top of my list....

Thanks for the news!!  beerchug.gif

Sorry, I missed that.

Good news!

My roommate just called me at work to tell me that a Stockholm DAC was just delivered today.

Jiun and his crew were nice enough to send me a review sample and so in the next few weeks I'll be putting together a careful review/comparison (using my trustee Havana as counterpoint)...

Having owned the Paradisea DAC as well as the Havana ... I'm really not expecting to be let down. It *will* be interesting testing the higher bit depth capability, though ...

Anyway ... more later.

Rock.
