Subwoofer on a restrictive budget

Right now I have my computer going via USB to AMB Gamma2/full++.

From there, the gamma 2 outputs analog to my audioengine A5's and it outputs optical to my logitech z5500 box. The z5500 box is hooked up to my 10 inch z5500 subwoofer, and I have no other speakers plugged in. I'm using the z5500 as a standalone subwoofer.

Unfortunately, it belongs to my dad as I sold it to him and he'd rather I keep it in the (unused just-for-show-off-purposes) basement as part of the decor rather than it being functional in my room. he said he doesnt care but my mom will flip her sh** if its not down there. My GF offered to buy my broke jobless butt anything for 100 bucks as an anniversary gift.
Thats the backstory. I need an 8-10 inch subwoofer recommendation for 100-220 dollars. If I spend 220, i'll have no money for a month, so I'd prefer it to be for around 100.

It doesnt need to show me perfect detail or anything. I listen to a litle bit of dubstep, some Pendulum and Nero, and Hans Zimmer as far as really needing bass goes. Apart from that most of my music is rock or classical. System of a down, radiohead, etc.

bass is obviously important given the bands I listen to but i dont think it really needs to be terribly detailed. I just need great extension and rumble power. The z5500 sub is mostly crap anyways, its just loud.

Another option: I cant use the gamma 2 with just headphones because of the lack of volume control. i dont want to accidentally blow out my headphones or ear drums because some random flash video plays loudly or any crap like that. I currently mostly use monster turbines. I am in the process of saving up for either ATH M50, D2000, or D7000. I dont know which one i'll finally cave and buy, it depends on the deals at the time. Either way, my next PLANNED audio purchase was full sized headphones.

I know that technically all I need to use any set of in-ears with the gamma2 is a volume control, but perhaps its better to go with the E7?

I have so many options bumping around my head....I just hate the concept of getting "throw away" presents that I use until I'm ready to move on like some sort of cheap whore. frown.gif

Thank you very much. I was looking at the 10 incher because its on sale right now.

What me and her decided was that she'd just contribute 100 bucks towards my next audio purchase. I decided i'd just say screw it to the subwoofer and buy a proper nice one with both active and passive modes. One that can deliver tons of quality around 800 bucks. That way, I can continue upgrading my audio rig instead of just settling for some random crap just because i'm impatient.

We decided that I would buy the E5 headphone amp, Ipod LOD, and Denon D2000 headphones once they are on sale for around 250. That will let me buy the parts for a Mini3 or similar portable amp and possibly the X1 if its out by then (li-po upgrade for Mini3).

In the mean time, i'll save up money to buy a proper subwoofer for around 800 or so and also a proper amp. I might build a tubeamp for it. My next speaker upgrade is going to be Genelec 6.25 inch 2 way monitors, so I definately want a sub that can keep up with that, even if it means building one myself.

Thanks for the recommendations though.
