How to smooth my harsh portable setup?`

My current portable setup is

P1010140.jpg

FLAC/320mp3 -> Rockbox'd 5.5G Ipod 30gb -> Custom Lod -> AMB Mini^3

The harshness I'm talking about is a noisy/distorted treble, it's really easy to pick up using my DBA-02s. Some days I just can't stand it. It's something I never have from my Audio-gd NFB-12 or the standard headphone out on my pod and wanna solve this before I move onto nicer headphones or a DBA-02 reshell.

The simple excuse would be to say it's the iPod and it's crappy caps. If so, will the diyMod help ?

Or could it be the Lod (i.e. the ground is to pins 1 & 2, sound ground and digital ground) or the mini^3 amp ?

What does it sound like without the amp?

Maybe use the rockbox eq to bring down the highs?

Yes, It's less harsh coming from the headphone out.

Messing around with the eq a bit but it still seems shrill/harsh in the high end when I drop the 14khz to -3db.
