So... about the hd25 and aiaiaitma-1

So I tried the looking for new headphone thread no one replied.......

I want a headphone that sound neutral, melodic mids and sparkly, but not harsh, highs. I want pretty damn hard hitting bass, preferably bass I can feel. I don't want a sound so dark that the bass bleeds with the mids, but I still want hard hitting and audible bass. Does that make sense? Not bass frequency headphones, but headphones with really good hitting audible bass.

I was considering the hd25-1 adidas and the AIAIAI TMA-1

I listen to hip hop (not lil wayne crap with bass booms and claps, but good hip hop like kanye west with great instrumentals), dubstep, acoustic rock, rock, DnB, techno, and some violin/ orchestra stuff.

So please tell me how both compare, and also can anyone compare the hd25 amped and unamped?

Bass wise HD25 has better punch then TMA1 but the bass of HD25 is a bit more mono toned. HD25 bass doesnt leak into the mids.

Mids of the HD25 more forward yet still retains that bass punch and a bit of sparkle highs

Highs i find the HD25 is a bit Grado like but TMA1 has over all better highs

Using ipod touch with PA2V2 i get a bit better mids that is about it and not much better at that. With just the ipod touch it still sounds pretty darn good. But i would say HD25 can benefit a good amount with a good amp, reasoning... on my sony laptop the sound is much better then ipod+PA2V2 wider freq extension on both highs and lows with bigger sound stage.

oh sweet, so do you think a fiio e6 would cut it, and for hip hop which would you prefer the hd25 or tma-1 ?

This comparison has been done in numerous reviews. one example here:

and many other places.  just use google.

so... the tma-1's are warmer, but the hd25 has more "beat" like bass, so more thump and impact?

I actually think the HD25 doesn't benefit enough from a sub $100 amp for it to be worth wile money wise and the extra gear you need to carry.

Just to make it more difficult lol, have you considered the Beyred DT1350?

yeah.. but according to reviews, they are refrence headphones, boring accurate, but no fun or sparkle to it, the hd 25 has that melodic nice sparkle and hard hitting punchy bass, and the tma's have that full bass and sweet mids, plus the dt1350 is too expensive for what i need. Wait so how does the hd25 sound for hip hop ?

Ya I agree the slight sparkle you get from a HD25 really makes a great match with the punchy base, gives the sound alot of character. DT1350 is over priced for what you get. Adidas HD25 are similar priced but i got mine on sale for 200 so i guess that makes it ok lol.

HD25 is very good for hip hop there is no bass leak into the mids so you hear voices clearly. Sound separation is great everything is clear (not good as the HD600). The fast punchy bass does not fight with the mids for presence. The slight sparkle in the highs makes most tracks more dynamic, as in you hear more then just bass and mids.

Future Shop in Canada, about a month back they had sale on them. I think amazon.com also has a sale on the normal HD25-1 ii right now for $100ish!

Given the fact that you listen to hip hop you may want to include the new V-Moda M80 in your search.  They are extremely balanced and quite a few people who've tried them say they surpass the HD25 in terms of all around performance (myself included).  Worth looking into at least.

I don't think the HD25 bass has enough decay for hip-hop. You might want to go with the TMA-1s or the aforementioned V-modas.

Without fast bass decay you dont get that bass punch on/off sound. Never heard the M80 but prob worth comparing along with D2000 and the new AKG K550

wow for real ? that's actually surprising.

Also what exactly is bass decay, because like I said the hip hop i listen to isnt the bass bombing and clapping, it's more often songs like touch the sky by kanye west, and if you have heard it you know how it differs from other hip hop songs. Also, only like 20% of my music I listen to is hip hop. I always thought hip hop needed really punchy bass, so please do clear me up on the whole bass decay thing.

oh also sorry no big cans in this thing, I have a pair of M50's, which are more than enough.

If it helps I have a pair of MS400's and the bass style isn't to my liking(at least from my iphone), so i'm selling it.

I just received my hd25-1 ii's. I'm not an audiophile, but wow, the sound these puppies make after a couple of hours of burn in (out of the box they were pretty poor) is just so tight, crisp, punchy, detailed. I'm seriously enjoying them, and i've heard they just keep getting better the more you play them. For a pair of portable cans I don't think you can do much better. It would be unrealistic to expect much better sound in the same form factor.

They don't have much soundstage but I actually like the intimacy. I'm looking forward to seeing how these grow.
