Found some NOS tubes, need advice

My Father in law dug out a box of brand new tubes that he saved from the trash bin years ago when he was in the military. Said I could have as many as i want.

I am not sure if any of these are suitable for an amp, but i thought i would post the part numbers and see if any of the tube gurus could give me advice.

There are:

Sylvania 12AX7A's

Sylvania 6BA6

JG          12AT7WB

JG          5654/6AK5W

JAN        12BE6

JHS        5725/6AS6W

JRC        12BA6

JRP        5726/6AL5W/6097

JAN JRC 6AX6

JHS      6AU6WB

JHS       6189/12AU7WA

              6AF4A

JAN-CRP 6AH6

Sylvania  12BH7A

JG 5750 6BE6W

17JZ8

Lots of PN's, most of these are brand new in the box. Shame to see them just sitting there. I have a Millett Mosfet MAX I could try some of these in, but i will need to research and find out if any of these are useable for it. would love to build another amp though.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

I would start the process of building an amplifier with those tubes with the purchase of the Morgan Jones books:

Building valve Amplifiers (construction)

and Valve Amplifiers (design)

Sorry, but none of those will work in the MOSFET-MAX.

I'm building a 12au7 Starving student. Are you interested in selling some of these?

If you want info or to sell your tubes. http://www.audiotubes.com/bidlist.htm

I don't think I listed a 12au7, is one of them i listed a good replacement?

In any case, They belong to my father in law, he offered them to me for free, I am sure he would be willing to sell them but i would like to make sure. He was working for the military and they were cleaning out an entire room of spare outdated parts. He grabbed a bunch of tubes just in case he needed replacements for his TV at the time. In any case, the 12aX7 seems to be somewhat of an audio tube.

Great advice on the Morgan Jones books guys, I will see if i can get them.

Thanks

12AU7 can replace by 12AX7 or 12AT7, they're just different gain, start from 12at7(low gain), 12au7(mid gain) n finally 12ax7(the strongest gain) n they're on same voltage heater 12volt

Tomy Thong has given you a good breakdown on the differences in the three 12ax7 family of tubes. Still, you would need to listen to the different tubes in a particular circuit to tell which one you may like the best. Sometimes the speakers will like one particular tube best. I bought some used books that can give you the information to help explain the electrical difference of the various tubes. I like the RCA Receiving Tube Manual, GE's Essential Characteristics of tubes, and Howard Sams Tube Substitution Handbook. A used book store may have copies like those mentioned. Good Luck
