How to balance left and right channels?

I have a slight hearing loss in my left ear and would like to be able to "balance" the left and right channels coming from the amp.  Luckily the volume control is a two-part affair which allows for individual adjustment.  My difficulty is that I find it difficult / impossible to get an accurate balance listening to normal music tracks.  Is there anything that has say simple tones which alternate between left and right channels?
