Have you heard the Balancing Act yet? Bad recordings sound bad on the SR007A and SR009. Stuff I consider a bit bland suddenly sounded catchy on the BA. The BA and a HD800 with balanced cables is the most interesting rig I've heard in awhile, and it made bad stuff sound interesting, and good stuff sound great. I find the stats make great stuff sound exceptional, but stats don't do much with poor recordings (which, unfortunately, goes for a lot of synth-heavy stuff).
I'd like to keep an electrostat rig around for the exceptional detail, but the BA is making me give serious consideration to the dynamics again. I'm pretty meh on the LCD-2 (R1 and R2), but the BA is a pretty awesome piece of kit.
Nope, but I'd sure like to one day. I don't even know if we have any BA's here in Australia.
I think my modded 007a does quite well with bad recordings, but that probably comes down to personal preference/source material and all that. I only tunnel vision vocals so I just want something that makes everything else get the hell out of the way. I don't think I can live with the HD800 from the reports on how bright it is, all the music I have is already crazy bright, tinny and sibilant, but I'll have to give them a go when I get a chance. The recent(ish) $400 price hike doesn't help either =/.
I'm already heavily invested into electrostats, so I don't think I'll ever go back to dynamics again, unless something truly stunning comes out. Building an amp should be a piece of cake, as it would be quite refreshing to be able to work on something that doesn't try and kill you.
