I'd like to keep an electrostat rig around for the exceptional detail, but the BA is making me give serious consideration to the dynamics again.  I'm pretty meh on the LCD-2 (R1 and R2), but the BA is a pretty awesome piece of kit.

Nope, but I'd sure like to one day. I don't even know if we have any BA's here in Australia. tongue.gif

I think my modded 007a does quite well with bad recordings, but that probably comes down to personal preference/source material and all that. I only tunnel vision vocals so I just want something that makes everything else get the hell out of the way. I don't think I can live with the HD800 from the reports on how bright it is, all the music I have is already crazy bright, tinny and sibilant, but I'll have to give them a go when I get a chance. The recent(ish) $400 price hike doesn't help either =/.

I'm already heavily invested into electrostats, so I don't think I'll ever go back to dynamics again, unless something truly stunning comes out. Building an amp should be a piece of cake, as it would be quite refreshing to be able to work on something that doesn't try and kill you.

Besides, I need something just a little more edgy so I can play the age guessing game with increased accuracy. and I think it will make them sound younger too, so that's a biwinning in my book.

LOL

I feel this place has become a breeding ground for new people with few people staying longer then a few months to a year. I also have a lot i am skeptical on the credibility of what a lot of members say on here. Dacs, everyone told me to get a Fiio E7 instead of Grado sr60s. Now that i own both Alessandro MS1 and a Fiio E7 i can claim that the fiio e7 is not worth it. I hear no difference between any of my onboard audio. In fact my acer laptops realtek onboard sounds better then any of the others i have tested. The Alessandro MS1 may be good but i still feel it is very scratchy and sounds like it is full of distortion. Luckily i enjoy that. I am also getting kind of annoyed how a lot of this website is starting to feel like some places on 4chan. My original displeasure with the shure srh750dj was for no reason other then the fact the recordings sounded bad. Same thing stood true for the srh840s. I now know that if i TURN DOWN MY MUSIC the sound quality on any pair of headphones increases exponentially. I enjoy these forums but i mostly hang around the members lounge area and the music forums. I also comment on headphone sightings in the headphones sightings thread. I feel i have also noticed that the beast bashing has also decreased lately with a lot of members voicing opinions in favor of beats to their target audience. I agree but even for the target audience you can get better for the price. One more thing which annoys me is the audio snobbery shown on these forums. Audiophiles claiming flat is the only way to go and colored ruins the music, or audio elitists claiming there music is always going to be better then everyone elses and think they are more of a music fan because they listen to classical. I find the attitude here as gone from positive when i first joined in 2010 to negative where it is now. Maybe i am looking to much into things but i feel all these things are dragging down my experience on the forums and don't make me want to get better gear. What i have experienced is headphones no matter the price break easier then speakers. Do to this i still wouldn't spend more then $300 on decent headphones. Even $200 is pushing it. Well bobsayshi a lot has changed since the earlier days when you had link as your avatar. But i am willing to stick around this forum for a while more. Maybe i can educate people on what i know from someone who is subjective with money. My rant is over.

Should have not bought either of those two like I told you to! JK! HA!

I'm also pretty much done with this hobby. I just check in sometimes to see what's getting sold. Not sure why. Seems like an engraved habit. I rarely take out my Stax anymore. I sometimes listen to my cheap Logitech X 540 which don't fatigue my ears because I refuse to have any speakers pointed at my ears. But now I mostly just tap beats on my lap like I used to in college and find enjoyment in knowing that I'm preserving my hearing for a hundred years. In that time, I'll come back on Head-fi to boast about my unusually apt hearing range for my age. "Back in my day, we didn't need to emphasis 22k frequencies!"

But, yea. You realize everyone is just splitting hairs after awhile and in your head you're like, "Yea, sure you can properly drive your headphones, buddy. Right through my head!"

Not sure about Sydney, but there's at least one in Melb.

I should give up eventually, but fist I have to try the objective desktop amp and thunderpants. :)

idk, it's such a weird/niche thing to obsess about - SQ, but then again my abnormality never ceases to amaze me, and I would never want to be normal.

An O2 and T50RP sounds pretty awesome to me, you need a quality DAC in that chain too though.

ooh, really. Well I'm waiting for the desktop version with a DAC.

Or you could get a normal T50RP for $75 and spend the residual funds you saved on a Fostex HP-A3? =p

Just talking DAC's... smeggy's woodwork does look very nice.

After salivating over gear, I finally spent a fair bit of money on some gear and then.... started listening to music. I don't post much these days. You try and help people at first but when you see someone giving a glowing recommendation for a headphone he or she has never heard, you just give up. As for the OP, I don't care too much about chasing that 5% any more although I look for different experiences. It's all about the music after all!

Actually that's what I meant... he also sold his BA to get the newer version BA right?

O2 desktop is in my future as well, and will likely be the end. I'm going the custom IEM route, however not Thunderpants. I prefer the presentation from IEMs. For source I've been using the DacMagic, but I've got a Schiit Bifrost on pre-order and I'll try those side by side and pick the winner. I'm hoping it's the Bifrost due to more available resolutions, but it won't affect my judgement of sound. American made for good price by people who have been doing it for years. I just wish the Asgard was usable with low impedance cans, but the O2 should do great for me.

I admit I only read the OP, first page, and last few posts of this thread, but I have to make one comment. In the Internet era, when one can find a blog or chat-board for almost any micro-niche hobby, if one is not interested in high fidelity audio, then why, in gods name, bother to read and post on a site dedicated to that? Take your energy and time somewhere that makes you happy. Life is short. Why rant? Why be upset? Just go do something else. The world is your oyster.
