seeking advice for Grado SR80i AMP and DAC pairings

post #1 of 2
Thread Starter

Looking for advice regarding several options I am considering.

I have Grado SR80i headphones. I have read the conflicting opinions regarding whether it's worth amping the Grado SR80i. Not sure what to believe. That said, I *have* the headphones, I have to get an amp of some kind for Xbox gaming, and I do a lot of listening to music on my laptop and iphone. Now I'm just trying to figure out where to go from here. I'd like to spend between $0 and $200, and definitely not more than $300.

Anyone have any thoughts on which of the following would be better? Any other options I should consider?

OPTION 1 - buy HRT Music Streamer II and PA2V2

         Laptop --> HRT Music Streamer II (USB DAC) --> PA2V2 (AMP) --> SR80i

         Xbox 360 --> PA2V2 --> SR80i

OPTION 2 - buy FiiO E7 and PA2V2

         Laptop --> FiiO E7 (USB DAC/AMP) --> SR80i

         Xbox 360 --> PA2V2 --> SR80i

OPTION 3 - buy FiiO E10 (when it comes out) and PA2V2

         Laptop --> Fiio E10 (USB DAC/AMP) --> SR80i

         Xbox 360--> PA2V2 --> SR80i

OPTION 4 - buy FiiO E7 only

        Laptop --> FiiO E7 --> SR80i

        Xbox 360--> FiiO E7 --> SR80i

OPTION 5 - something else?

        iBasso?

Thanks in advance.

I've had good results from my Headroom Total Bithead as well... good price. USB DAC performs well, amp is more than sufficient for mid-tier (SR-80-225) Grado's

The iBasso D6 or D12 also looks like great options (D12 is tempting with the Coax input).
