Hi Guys,
I am new here, and relatively ignorant. Some of the posts go *whoosh* over my head. Let me tell you my setup, and some things I'd like to learn more about. I am using a Schiit Lyr as my main amp, and am running Belkin PureAV silver series RCA cables to a HLLY DMK-IV. From the HLLY, I am using a Belkin Pro Ice series USB 2.0 for iMac, to my iMac computer. The operating version is Snow Leopard, Mac OS X, version 10.6.8. My headphones are AKG-701 Quincy Jones, and Sennheiser HD-650.
First oddity is, while HLLY states that the DMK-IV is capable of 24/96000.0, when I go into audio Midi setup, this is not available, even when playing FLAC files. Since the HLLY is stated as automatically configuring based on source, does the 2-channel 16 bit, 440000 imply that it is fixed, or is the HLLY making an adjustment, and the 2 channel 16/44 just something I am seeing in the Audio Midi software? Interestingly, the output of the iMac DAC shows it as being 24/96000. What gives there?
Secondly, is there anything I can change internally with the HLLY DMK-IV to improve the headphone out sound? If so, what, and diagrams would be helpful. Also, where are the capacitors available? Thanks for your help, I really like this forum!
